Almost totalled my car and severely hurt people on Friday.

Droppin off dry cleaning Friday morning, parking lot is to my back. Girl behind the counter says "OMG is that your car?" I turn around and my car is rolling backwards through the parking lot aisle (cars on both sides) at about 10mph with a 100ft head start from where I was standing. I quickly sprint towards the car, grab the key fob out of my back pocket as I was running, unlock the doors, jump in, slam on the brakes. Car saved. Literally rolled perfectly down a parking lot aisle. Had the steering wheel been turned a hair when I parked, the car would have hit something. Thank god no one backed out or was walking through the aisle. When I stopped the car it was 100ft from rolling into a major street with rush hour traffic whizzing by at 55mph. The Caddy would have been T-boned for sure. Car was in 1st gear facing forward and the parking brake was engaged when I parked it. For some reason my e-brake pedal isn't engaging as high up as it used to all of a sudden...now I have to slam it to the ground to get it to engage. Found this out the hard way.

So the dealership claims the parking brake needed some adjusting. No $%*#! They're the ones who just reinstalled my parking brake when I had them put new brake rotors on the car. They fixed that but couldn't explain why the car still rolls backwards while the car is in 1st or 2nd gear.

Re: Almost totalled my car and severely hurt people on Friday.

It sounds like Friday could have been better or worse for both of us. I have not driven since the end of January due to having 3 major surgeries, one of them being brain surgery. On Friday, my daughter was going to take me up to the hospital for an appointment. My 5-year-old nephew was going with us. My daughter moved her car from behind mine and was getting my nephews booster seat from her car. My nephew was standing right next to her. I decided to actually drive half way down the block and check the mail while she was getting everything out of her car for my nephew. I looked all around me checked and saw my nephew next to my daughter, I started backing up, I backed up about a foot, and something told me to stop. Next thing I know my nephew was under the car. He saw me getting ready to leave and decided to stop the car. Why I stopped who knows but another 2-3 inches he would have been under the tires. Thank GOD, he only ended up with some road rash, a ride in an ambulance and a stuffed animal from the EMT. I walked to the mailbox.

CTSV ?

Yep, the adjustment is good and may even be part of scheduled maintenance. . . If it was messed with I'd hope that would've been checked.

As far as why the car rolls while in gear, it should have some resistance but could be movable in 1or2. I can push my vette in gear in first as well.

Glad everything worked out ok with you catching the car! I'd imagine that got your heart rate up for the better part of an hour.

Yep, CTS-V....it should be movable.....but there's really no resistance. That's the problem. Yeah, my heart rate was up for quite a while.
