| Loving My LapBand! Hi All, I had my LapBand Surgery, on 1/9/07. I have been losing weight at a nice even pace. I'm almost at 80 pounds, lost. I swim 4-5 days a week and do weight lifting twice a week. My eating is pretty limited. I find that very helpful in watching my food intake. I was wearing 3X & 4X tee shirts before my surgery. As of today, 8/9/07, I am wearing 1X!!!!! My pant size has dropped from size 50 to size 24 and a half!! It was eight months ago today, that I had the LB surgery!! Personally, I LOVE IT!! I'm having trouble eating much food, after my second adjustment, any suggestions? Can't eat meat or fish. BeenThere

Welcome to the site BeenThere and congratulations on your success!! That's an incredible drop in pant sizes, you must be going through clothes like water! I'm going to move this into our Obesity Surgery section so that you will get more/better responses.

You need protein, how about protein shakes, soy and/or some dairy? Protein bars maybe too?

| Re: Loving My LapBand! G,day Beenthere
I had my lapband installed on the 5th November 2007. I was told to stick to liquid meal replacements for 3 week prior, and 2 weeks post surgery. I lasted about a week after surgery before having some vegetable soup and yoghurt etc. Nothing solid. But i am still quite uncomfortable. It feels better when i eat. I am up for my first top up of fluid next week. Dont know what to expect. At the moment i can eat a bit. But it goes through pretty quick leaving me hungry. I am hoping i can still eat the same food as i can now. But it will take longer to go through. leaving me fuller for longer. Does this sound realistic???
You have had yours for a while now. Do you still get discomfort from the band? If not, how long did it take before it settled down. At the moment i still havent stopped taking pain relief.
I am back to work next week and wondering if i will be on long term pain relief. Any insight into your experience would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers

| Re: Loving My LapBand! From a member who was having trouble posting: Hi Kirk,
This is the only way I know how to respond. I'm having difficulty in responding to this email group.
First of all, follow your doctor's instructions to the letter. If you goof up, go right back to your eating instructions. IT IS WORTH IT!! To tell you the truth, I haven't had ANY PAIN, or discomfort since my surgery.
I did follow instructions to the tee. I started off with clear liquids and sugar free Jell-O, soft. Then I moved on to cream soups. These really saved the day.
I moved on to purred foods in my third week. Very soft and liquidly foods are easier to swallow. From my third week on, I ate sugar free pudding, sugar free Jell-O and practically lived on mostly soups, just about any kind that was creamy. No steak, for me.
Ten months since my surgery and two adjustments, I still can't eat meat, unless it is ground and liquidly. I can't eat bread or tortillas, unless they are soggy. (in soup)
I had a little set back and regained 5 pounds, but they're off again, thanks to God!!! I'm at about 85 or more pounds off!
This surgery has been a God send, for me!! I've NEVER, lost so much weight!! Besides that, I feel wonderful!! I have soooooo much more energy and have a much, much, more positive attitude!!! Like I said, I've never suffered from any pain, thanks to Our Lord!!
If it weren't for this surgery, I would still be eating!! I still try sometimes, but I do get sick. That's because I didn't need it or I ate too fast or......sometimes, our tummies just do not want to accept certain foods. It's as though, we have a sensitivity to certain foods.
I'm sure if you'll stick to the soups and salads, Jell-O, apple sauce, non fat milk, especially low carb yogurt, you'll feel better. In time, you will know what foods keep you feeling full longer. I just kept the Jell-O cups and pudding cups handy....and they REALLY relieve all hunger......It takes time...... Watch your carbohydrate intake!! Carbs are our enemy! We can have a few but, try to stay low carb and low fat.
The rewards are sooooo worth it!!!!! I haven't regretted one day!! I'd do it again....in a second! This is the freedom all morbidly obese people have been looking for!
Of course, I swim most days from half an hour to one full hour. Twice a week, I do weight lifting, at physical therapy. I see my psychologist once a week and I go to Weight Watcher's, once a week.
All these things work together to insure I am successful in this mission!! The most important thing is to PRAY, PRAY, PRAY!! Ask The Lord, for strength and guidance. Ask for His Favor, in ALL you do and to be with you at every moment!!
Yes, it does get better! It does take time and patience....Once you start seeing the weight come down, that will encourage you much more!
Thank you, for writing. I would love to continue to hear from you! Let me know if you have any other concerns.
God bless you!
Loving My LapBand (Ruth)

| Re: Loving My LapBand! G,day all
I have had my lapband now since 5th November. I have since lost about 50 pounds. I have had my first "top up" but i am looking forward to getting the second one. I am finding that i get hungry a bit now. Thank god for diet jelly . I have been eating heaps of it. I mostly get hungry at night. So i have been trying to keep as busy as possible in the evenings. Plus we have now got this great show on cable from the USA. Its called "Big Medicine" I have found it realy motivating.
Fortunatly i have been able to eat most things. I just need to take small bites and chew like buggery! So at least i wil be able to enjoy Christmas dinner (in small amounts).
Now i know what you mean "been there" when you say "loving my lapband"
merry christmas folks !

Like "Been there" I also lifted weights before and after surgery. I was using the treadmill etc about two weeks after surgery. But lifting weights and doing sit-ups etc took about 4 -5 weeks. I probably could have pushed it earlier. But i thought to myself this is longterm thing. I need to able to lift weights from now on. So another week or two didnt matter to me.
Best of luck John.

Congrats to beenthere, glad he converted to the Light side--
Big John, he said " I swim 4-5 days a week and do weight lifting twice a week. My eating is pretty limited. I find that very helpful in watching my food intake."
sounds like a solid lifestyle to me, little bit of diet, little bit of exercise, beenthere is on the straight and narrow now- yippee
save yourself the money and stress of having that surgery, im not a fan of it b/c you have to DIET and EXERCISE even after you pay thousands of dollars for a procedure that can be done for free on your own. IMO
