| I got the insurance approval today! Everything is "GO" for me to get gastric bypass surgery.
Surgeon is Dr. Robert Davis here in Houston. My surgery will be at the brand new University General Hospital. The rooms are like a 5-star hotel.
I should go under the knife within the month, I am very excited.
I am a 5'8", 23 year old guy and weigh almost 320 lbs. right now. I have severe sleep apnea and hypertension. I can't wait to be off the damn Benicar so I can stop peeing every 15 minutes, lol.

I am allowed to have a small piece of chicken or fish at dinner time.
I have my pre-op meeting set for the 27th.

Oh yeah, welcome | Took the better part of a year from my first appointment to getting approval. I had to go through a huge battery of tests (colonoscopy, endoscopy, nuclear stress test, MRI, sleep study, blood work) before my general doctor would give the recomendation and the referral to Dr. Davis.
Then I had to wrangle up 5 years of medical history paperwork showing that I have been obese. And then my general doctor had to write a letter of recomendation. And everyone knows how slow doctors can be, lol.
Once all of the paperwork was together, it didn't take much longer than ~2 weeks for the insurance company to approve it. When we called to ask if they even covered GBP surgery, they said the requirements were simply 5 year weight history and a letter from the doctor detailing why I needed the surgery and how it would help me medically.

But I am sure it will all be worth it in the end!

| Re: I got the insurance approval today! Well I start my liquid diet tomorrow! I had my "last meal" tonight for dinner.
My step-dad cooked up some sausage gravy and biscuits and some scrambled eggs. He hasn't cooked it in like 3 years since he had heart bypass surgery, so it was a real treat.
I actually did a little test today... I had just an instant breakfast shake for lunch, and it actually kept me pretty well content from noon until about 4:30, so I think I am gonna be able to do this without being misreble.

Originally Posted by Irving how long did it take for the weight to start coming off after your obesity surgery? are your eating habits the same as they were 2 years ago? any side effects? | Well for me I lost weight right away. SOME people retain fluids while in the hospitol from the IV's...but me i was one that had to pee every 30 mintues and bother the nurses around the clock every 30 mintues to go and they had to unhook everything so that i could go...oh well. I have heard some folks come home up some weight from this but my body ridded it fast.
As far as my eating habits....well i will say i can eat far more now and i do have to be careful with eating now. I am out of the honeymoon of looseing
window and its harder now. NOW i have to eat and use my new tool correctly to maintain this weight i am at now.
I do now dump on sugar unless i eat them on an empty stomach. I have a few foods that disagree but nearly as many as the first year. THE only problem that i have had as a post op was around my one year i had a small bleeding ulcer which meds helped rid for me. OTHERWISE i have had a healthy uncomplicated journey so far.
