Program Priorities
The Colorado Physical Activity and Nutrition State Plan 2010 is currently being updated and revised. The updated plan will include 13 sections:
Breastfeeding
Early childhood
School site
College
Work site
Older adult
Provider education
Health disparities
Active Community Environments
Colorado On The Move
Reduced TV viewing
5 A Day
Surveillance and evaluation
Three interventions are currently underway:
The School Site Resource Kit focuses on the entire school community administrators, faculty, food service personnel, parents and students as well as health care providers and the community at large. The intended outcome of the kit is to empower school personnel to implement programs or policies related to the school environment that support the development of healthy eating patterns and an active lifestyle.
The Work site Resource Kit targets all work sites, large or small, by providing employers with resources and programs for implementing work site wellness initiatives. The Resource Kit is divided into four sections: health education, physical activity, healthful eating, and worksite environment. The Kit outlines the steps necessary for work site wellness programming, including the planning, assessing, and implementation of physical activity and nutrition interventions to help employers establish a successful wellness program.
Colorado On the Move is a statewide physical activity campaign that is currently undergoing design changes to add a nutrition component. The physical activity component encourages people to increase their activity levels by increasing the number of steps they take every day. Pedometers are provided to help participants keep track of their steps. The effectiveness of the intervention for preventing and controlling obesity is currently being evaluated.
