US Obesity Statistics by State

A telephone interview study by the Trust for America's Health showed that 31 states had in increase in obesity, whereas no states showed a decrease in obesity. 19 states stayed the same.

Colorado Obesity was the best at 17.6%, and Mississippi became the first state in this study to crack the 30% level.

The data compared was 2003-2005 vs. 2004-2006 data collected by the group.

Children between the ages of 10-17 were also studied for childhood obesity. Utah was the best at 8.5% while the District of Columbia was the worst at 22.8%

The CDC did a similar study that declared that 32% of all Americans were obese. The CDC study actually weighed people whereas this study does not. What that tells me is that people are either lying about their weight or underestimating it. That type of denial is part of why we are where we are today in my opinion.

Overall the CDC declared that 22% of Americans did not exercise at all in the last month in their study, with some states being over 30% including Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky and Tennessee. Minnesota was the best at 15.4% not exercising this last month.

This also tells me that poverty has some sort of correlation with obesity, as 5 of the top 10 states are your poorer states.

Re: US Obesity Statistics by State

Yeesh. Still heading in the wrong direction, although I don't know how much cloat a phone interview has on being statistically accurate. At least some of the states didn't get worse, I guess that's a good sign?

I agree that people underestimate their weight and that could be a big reason why the telephone interviews revealed less overall obesity than the CDC's scale results.
