Migration data and obesity

In a survey done by Fortis Hostipal and the Joslin Diabetes Center, by Drs. Mishra and Ganda, South Asians who migrate into India are more likely to be obese, and come down with type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. The risks were even worse for Indians who went from the countryside in India to the city or for Indians who moved to the Western Hemisphere. The consumption of less healthy food and increased sedentary lifestyles from being in a new place, lack of confidence, alienation, etc. were partly to blame. It was surmised that these same people were more likely to indulge in unhealthy activities (smoking, drugs, drinking) due to the extra stress from the move.
