Obesity- Is it overhyped?

Obesity- Is it overhyped?

Everywhere in the media, epidemic this, disease that. Now every TV station has an obesity reality TV show. Is this all just a fad? The media is all about overhyping issues, but a part of me does believe that it is an important issue that needs to be dealt with sooner or later.

I wonder if the media will just move on to something else and obesity will fall on the backburner from an importance perspective down the road.

I think it's a big issue (no pun intended), but at the same time I think the media is trying to capitalize on the on the hype. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Re: Obesity- Is it overhyped?

It's a shame that it's mostly motivated by money and not by actually wanting to see this problem corrected.

This is one of the only industries that succeeds the more we fail.

*Mini Rant*

Health magazines are the worst for this. Is it just me or is every issue of "Men's Health magazine" a special weightloss issue.

Womens World has a new "breakthrough" diet every issue. There are a ton more like this.

Bottom line is that hype sells because we buy into it. We have all been guilty of looking for the fastest or easiest way to lose weight at one time or another. The media knows this (they are people too) and basically gives us what we want to hear.

The biggest weightloss secret is that there is no secret!

Ok rant done.
