Newbie Senior looking for friends and support

Hi,
Just joined and would like any support out there in my quest to lose 25 to 30 pounds by 6/1/08. This is a tall order for an oldster like me but I have a reunion coming up so hope that helps motivate me. I have a problem sticking with a diet and would appreciate any suggestions that have helped. I will answer any replies....

Well, are you willing to count your calories? It's not a diet per se, just keeping track of what you eat compared to how many calories you should aim to eat on average each day to achieve your goals.

If you lose 2lbs a week you'll be right where you want to be. We just need to set you up with a calorie deficit of 1000 calories a day on average and you'll be right there.

Let us know if you'd like us to help you figure out how much you should be eating to achieve your goals.

Y'know what? I don't think age has anything to do with losing weight. Can you imagine calling Jack LaLanne "old?" He'd holler! Anyway, just make up your mind to do it, and...watch the movie "Castaways," with Tom Hanks. I'm serious. It's a fabulous study of losing weight, especially if you know that...they filmed it backwards. He gained the weight on purpose, and they shot the first scenes with him out of shape, lumpy, and overweight. During the shoot, he actually lost the weight -- did the huge physical exertion, taught himself how to catch his own fish, find his own firewood, etc. Watch that movie, really, I think it would help. Then start with the diet & exercise, and be dogged about it, persistent.

Patient too. It does take a while. Best of luck!

Re: Newbie Senior looking for friends and support

I agree. Diet and exercise go hand in hand. If you really, seriously begin to exercise and cut back a little on calories you'll see a difference. Start eating foods higher in protein and cut back on the junk in your diet. Don't get discourgaged. The first few weeks are the hardest b/c you don't see results right away and your sore and tired and you figure what's the use. I think your trying to lose quite a bit in a short period of time, but it's good to have something like a reunion to motivate you. You can lose even less than that and with execise your body will begin to change and look better. I've been at it 7 weeks and I've already dropped a dress size and I have a few pair of pants and a skirt I can pull off w/o unzipping b/c they are so loose! Hopfully your new diet and exercise will become a way of life for you beyond your reunion b/c you'll feel and look better from now on.

Re: Newbie Senior looking for friends and support

Whatever you do, cut out the sugar and try and cut out flour products, or switch to whole grain bread if you have to have bread. Eat whole foods that you slightly cook or in their raw state.
Walk my friend, get out and walk. Easy on the knees and good for the heart.

As for the Tom Hank's movie...watch it as much as you can....Cause I'm pretty sure you will fall asleep and while sleeping burn calories and can't eat....LOl I really like Tom Hanks, just hated 'The Castaway'....but everybody has their own taste. I know a lot of people who liked and they say I'm nuts for not liking it. So there you go.

Good Luck!
