| Let the resolutions begin Let the resolutions begin
This year, find a way to make healthy living stick past January Post Comment
(January 1, 2007) — American Idol winner Ruben Studdard is pushing his home state of Alabama, where 25 percent of the population is considered obese, to lose weight. We in New York are not quite as heavy, but we could still stand a little Studdard-style motivation.
This week local gyms may be full of people who have resolved to get more exercise, but unfortunately New Year's enthusiasm typically wears off. Soon many will sink back into the apathy that leaves more than 60 million Americans obese.
It's much more than a simple matter of appearance. Obesity is directly related to major health problems, from heart disease to diabetes. The Centers for Disease Control estimate that Americans spend approximately 10 percent of health care dollars on conditions related to being overweight.
That's why it's important that leaders make the promotion of healthier living a priority.
Studies show that people are most likely to keep up an exercise routine when they are part of a partnership or group. Studdard, who recently lost 100 pounds through a combination of healthy eating and exercise, hopes to unite people to help change health attitudes in Alabama. Alabama's hospitals and the Alabama Department of Public Health have signed on to help sponsor his eight-week exercise and healthy eating campaign. Mayor Duffy, an avid runner, would be a good person to lead such an effort in Rochester. Make healthy living a part of the culture. Obesity and Exercise

| I made a resolution to eat healthier this year, and I have done just that! I have been eating a lot of food from the recipe forums. They are surprisingly good for how healthy they are! My biggest issue is the time factor, because it takes longer and is less convenient to eat healthy. But I don't care! You only live once, right?

I have a veritable cornucopia of beer from a gathering I had recently, and yes I even have Miller Light! So what time you coming over?

I'm surprised Hardee's even sells something like that!

Burger King in Altoona, PA used to sell veggie burgers at one time, haven't been there in ages so don't know if they still do. The hamburgers at Hardee's I was talking about make your mouth water. They are freakin' awesome!! How did you lose your weight?

I guess you could say this years resolution is to reach my goal weight, but it basically just finishing what I started. For once.

| Re: Let the resolutions begin So Sunday through Thursday you are basically Atkins then on Friday and Saturday (24hrs I assume) you eat all the carbs you want? Wow! Is that how you lost your weight so far? I am trying to cut out carbs altogether again. Not working so good this time, but am trying to limit them drastically. Yes, I know where you are coming from with your resolutions and your resolve.

Yes, I know where you are coming from with your resolutions and your resolve. | No, I just ate around 2200 calories with 1.5g of protein per lb and split the rest of the calories between fat and carbs with no carbs after 6pm pretty much. I'm stuck with this last 20lbs or so that won't come off no matter how much cardio/lifting I do or calories I cut. Even shocking my system won't let me get under 224lbs....
