| How do you keep going How do you stay motivated when you are injured and how do you stay motivated when you really do not have the full support of your family? I am currently injured (foot) and can't walk well and I really don't think I have the support of my family when it comes to an exercise program.

Aww! I'm sorry you don't have your family's support more but you have mine! And if you need to cut back on exercise while you recover that just gives you more time to make healthy meals! I've been working on cutting calories because it's faster. In the long run I think exercise is super important but there's just no way I can burn 1000 calories a day in a reasonable amount of time, whereas cutting that many was tough for the first couple months but I'm now used to it. I need to get under 330 to use a Wii Fit, which I think sounds like fun, so that was my first step. I'm almost there now, and I'll see if I can keep up the calorie level I'm on while adding workouts or if I need an extra snack then. Just remember doing something good for yourself is better than nothing!

Hi you have my support too!! Monique is right you can do so much with food cutbacks, rest your foot and find new meals to enjoy that will help you to your goal. Your family may come on board with it all once they see you are determined. Sorry about your foot, sometimes doing the exercise helps to keep you motivated but I always find it is food that is the key. This is my first week (again!) so I am not really in a positon to say I am how I keep going, more how I keep starting.

| Re: How do you keep going Thanks I less problem with the diet side of things it is the exercise they do not seem to support. Exercise takes time and I am allowed little time these days without some sort of harassment. If I exercise at night it is why are you going to bed so late if I exercise in the morning it is why are you getting up so early? And then the arguments start..and I am exercising in my own basement. If I think I have free time it is generally filled with to do lists (aka the honey-do-list). However this past weekend I had a bit of a blowup and that may be what was needed to get me the time I need. I’m not asking for a whole heck of a lot here 20 minutes to 1 hour a day that is all. Well I will know more after this weekend is over as to whether or not it has changed. So far this week it has not been so bad but then due to my foot I have not really been able to do one heck of a lot.

Hi
I hope you managed to get a little exercise in, i have been on holiday for a week and and now I am 4lb heavier. I was expecting to be. My exercise starts tomorrow as I have to catch up on jobs today. Hopefully we will both start exercising regularly soon. Today I need to sort out what I can eat for 1600 cals. It seems so long that I have been good on food control that I have forgotten. I may look at other links for some ideas. Congratulations for being able to keep the food in check, it is the main part, the exercise will come later maybe in 10 minutes walks here and there. Keep smiling.

Definitely better to avoid exercise while you're injured than risk reinjuring or making the condition permanent. As mentioned, focus on your caloric intake while you're taking a little downtime...your metabolism will likely continue doing its job while your coasting through a period of rest and recovery. Good luck!

But mowing the lawn REALLY messes up my foot so I have not been on the bike for a couple days. I am beginning to believe I should go see my doctor because on occasion it feels like things are moving in my foot that shouldn't other times if feels like things are not moving that should. Also I’m getting real tired of my foot hurting and I REALLY can't stand limping and I have to walk that way about 85% of the time.

Well, you have support here. And do it for yourself. I can't say I have my family's support either. I have not told my husband I am trying because he knows I will usually fail. And also, I don't want to hear "well, you don't need that beer (duh)" or "don't eat this or that" . Those aren't supportive words. They are more like "I know what's best" and he gets on my nerves.

~Monique | Not having family support is so tough! You are so right! Some people have had success sitting their loved ones down and explaining how much this meant to them and how it would mean so much if they (the family) could support their goals/dreams. Doesn't work for everyone though. I think it does help finding a friend/partner to go on this journey together.... Quote:

Just me, you may want to see a doctor regarding your injuries....I wouldn't put it off!

There are all kinds of them on the internet. I have limited mobility right now because of a bad left leg and I do the seated exercises when my leg is particularly bad.
I have no family support either but I don't let that bother me. They have thier lives to live and I have mine. __________________

Well the foot is a problem
Stress fracture in the heel.
Stay off it as much as possible and ice it as much as possible, up to hours a day

Aw, ouch! Hopefully keeping off it entirely will give it a chance to heal. In the mean time you can still count calories and do arm exercises.

That is what I will be doing for a while, I have a bench and a full set of weights but I will likely focus on dumbbell work and either seated or lying down to avoid pressure on the foot. I might be able to still do the stationary bike too but I will take it slow if I try that. And I can still do full sit-ups and leg raises and push ups (I will just have to do them with my knees bent)
