| Re: Got Milk? my kiddo's in 6'th grade and he just turned 12.
he won't drink water unless it's the only thing left. he drinks milk - and lots of it...
along with a diet high in carbs and sugar. he probably drinks a gallon in 2 days...
having said that, over the past 6 or so years, i have watched him go from husky to obese.... he's 5'6" and weighs 200.
while over the same time frame, i have watched him develop asthsma and skin itching problems to a higher and higher degree.
i'm unable to convince my wife, who does all the grocery shopping cuz i'm at work, that his diet might be the source of his health problems. she likes to just pump antihistimines down him and supress the problem. all of her faith is in doctors - who have failed to get to the root of my kids problems.
me thinks it's diet - and it makes sense that having too much milk (and sugar) plays a major role.... i just don't have any hard proof.

| Re: Got Milk? Maybe you could go to skim milk if he is drinking whole milk. My kids love milk too but I stopped buying the whole milk when they were about 6 and 7 and switched to skim milk or 1% milk. It is lower in fat and I think it tastes just as good as whole milk, although some people think it tastes like watered down milk.

- and does not drink water but drinks milk instead to quench his thirst?????

| Re: Got Milk? It's interesting we are the only creatures that past the infant stage drinks milk, and milk from another species at that. I happen to have sleep apnea and have to sleep with a breathing machine that requires I breathe through my nose. I used to be a big milk drinker. I was always congested at night and had trouble breathing even with my machine.
I quit drinking milk a month ago and haven't been congested at night since. The mucos level in my system has dropped significantly. I don't claim to be an expert, I just know the effect it has had on me once I quit drinking milk. |

| Re: Got Milk? Here's the problem. Medical care is not what it used to be. Doctors are so into specialization these days, that they're so myopic they only seem to see one tiny section of your body. They no longer look at you as a whole. I have been through the medical machine the last 5 years starting off with Congestive Heart Failure and ending up with Cardiomyopathy. I now have a significant part of my heart that is mechanical...so much so that I tick like a timex watch.
When it's quiet and you sit next to me, you can hear it. My point is that I went to see a doctor in the beginning for something, don't even remember now..think it was throat problem or something, I was examined and sent home with a good bill of health. When in all reality I was suffering the onset of CHF.
My ankles were so swolen and I was litterally drowning in my own juices you might say. A few days later, in the hospital nearly dead. Oh I remember..I was taking a thorough medical exam for my bi-yearly physical since I was licensed to carry extremely hazadous chemicals over the highway.
At one time this last couple of years I had as many as 8 doctors tending to me for various conditions, all at the same time. That's crazy, but that is the way things are these days. I dare you to find me an average MD that knows squat about nutrition.
Anyway...I'll get off my soapbox now.
Just glad to be alive.

| Re: Got Milk? I actually found a doctor that listens to what i say and doesnt just treat the symptom but he will spend as much time as it takes to find the actual problems. The only thing he sent me to see another doc over was my female issues i was having at the time. and he treated my kids too. He was the best doctor I've ever had. He was a pharmasist (sp) before he was a doctor.

He drinks around 1 gallon of skim milk a day and eats a decent split of carbs/protein/fat most of the time. He also wrestles 10 months out of the year and on average works out at least 1.5 hours a day through the week.
You'd guess he is fat but he's not...
I've attached some pics - he's in blue in these photo's. They're action shots so a bit blurry but you can get the idea of his muscles compared to the 220lb 14 year old he's wrestling (and beating... )
I have to link to the photo's as I couldn't upload them.
