Fast Food sucks!!

So, I have been trying to change how I eat now for about 2 weeks, and it has been going OK.....today I was out with my daughter and I was really hungry, so I turned to my old standby, MCDONALDS. I decided that it would be ok because I would go right back onto eating right.... well, the food definately made me sick, the whole time I ate it, I felt disgusting, I was actually very happy that I didnt like it but also very sick feeling.... I dont think that I will be having fast food for a while, which is a good thing. I have a question though, I find myself not eating enough because the only things available are bad, and I dont want to eat them so I end up starving.... what are things that are quick and easy to eat?

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I typically try to make extra of whatever I happen to be making for dinner, be it chicken or fish or whatever. That way I snack on the leftovers in the fridge if I have the urge to grab something right then and there. My snacks also consist of apples, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes, and/or half a tin of tuna. I eat my tuna dry and straight from the can, but my mom likes to add a little bit of light cream cheese and green onion and put it on a piece of toast rye.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I often get caught out with insufficient healthy food to eat. If there is a greengrocer shop handy, I would grab some delicious crisp crunchy fresh raw vegetables to munch on until I had the opportunity to get a proper meal. Otherwise I may purchase sandwiches, discard the bread and eat the fillings.

Um...Peter I'm kinda thinking that your pic might be a little inappropriate just because we do get young people on here

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

Most people know that fast-food is a junk but they still prefer to eat it. Why? Very simple, they think that they need a lot of time to prepare healthy food at home. Probably this is one wide circulated myth in the fast-food industry suggesting that 'fast-food' implies that home-cooking is slow-cooking that means a time consuming process. But this is not true. It's perfectly possible to prepare healthy weight-reducing meals in minutes.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

Jack in the Box has whole grain chicken pita's that are really good, and they also have baked chicken breast pieces, there is no breading. What I did the other day when I was hungry is went in to the grocery store grabbed a quarter pound of turkey from the deli, and some already cut up celery and carrots. It probably cost a little more than hitting the value meal but it was guilt free and healthy.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

It is easy... but it's also an instant carb rush. I love fast food. If I must eat fast food, I go to taco bell. They have a nutrition calculator online where you can add or delete certain parts of the taco or salad...for example...
the taco salad is way unhealthy- but if you get it without the shell or meat, it's not that bad. You can basically add and delete and see what to get- plus they have a fresco menu.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I'm looking for things that are quick to prepare as I've got my hands full with a very active baby. The other day she was so demanding that I ate a huge bag of chips for lunch (ouch)! I know there's no excuse for that.

On my better days I've been eating cereal with skim milk - it's not just for breakfast and hard-boiling several eggs and keeping them in the fridge. Hard-boiled eggs fill me up but I'm not sure if they are that good a choice though? My latest find is eating raw sugar snap peas from the bag - I love the flavor.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

best thing is to pack something for the road but if you have to buy fast food, try a chicken salad and a diet drink...if i stop by a 7-11 i'll buy a granola bar and a coke zero.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I feel free to munch on fresh crisp crunchy juicy delicious raw green vegetables as a snack any time. If I find that does not satisfy my body's needs I try some water. I consider if my hunger is my body telling me that its emotional needs are not being met right now. If my body wants some nutrition, I usually have fresh vegetables raw or lightly steamed with grilled fish, skinless chicken breast fillet, tuna or game meat. I avoid processed foods and refined sugar as much as possible. Even though the manufacturer labels and advertises their food as healthy and great for losing weight, fresh natural foods are most likely to be much better.

I think the best thing is just to avoid fast food restaurants altogether - keep a piece of fruit in your handbag and a bottle of water and even if you have to take your children there you can snack on that while they eat xxx

If you arent going to eat the fast food because it is bad for you why in the world would you feed it to your kids?

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

Best of luck in your transformation. I had very similar feelings when I was overweight. I think it's more important to realize, especially in the beginning when you are first trying to change your habits, that its not necessarily what you eat that you should be focusing on right now, but how much.

It's almost impossible to quit any addiction "cold turkey." I think you have a higher chance of being successful if you don't try to disrupt what your body is used to overnight. Just eat LESS of what you are used to and MORE healthy stuff as time goes on. Habit change is easier when you don't shock yourself.

Also, I see so many people fail because they're constantly beating themselves up and making themselves feel bad about everything. You have to get your mind and body working together with a positive outlook. If you have an uncontrollable craving for fast food, at least get the kids' meal and a dry salad on the side, instead of the mega-jumbo-super-duper-heart-attack size, and make sure you get a little bit of extra exercise. Learn to enjoy breathing and being outside moving around.

You have everything you need right there in your head to be successful. Good luck

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I felt that way too. I didnt feel good after like I used to, I felt bad the last time i ate fast food. A little sick too. Which is a good thing I think. The best thing to do when going to a burger joint on the fly is to get a kids meal. The kids meal at Mcdonals is 570 calories for the chesseburger one. 600 at jack in the box with curly fries. Just check the calories on there websites. Adults should only be eating the kids meals, kids shouldnt be eating it at all. Its a sad that people get thoughs big burgers and what not. But there fine for those excersise freaks who love excersising. But not the homebodies like myself.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I hear what your saying about looking at the calories on the menu, I lost 40 lbs and got stuck I completely stopped losing weight, then I realized that I was slowly making excuses like that I was to busy or something so I was eating more and more fast food again, my reasoning was that I would only grab a hamburger or cheeseburger no fries or pop. I started looking up the caloric content on everything and I mean everything even subway, it's a shocker it made me really start watching what I eat because there are a lot of calories in everything even things that you think might be healthy, like the other day I stopped and got a chicken burrito, just chicken, beans and rice I thought it would be healthy but I got home and looked it up and it had almost a 1000 calories, needless to say I went to the gym twice that day and wont' be eating it again.

yeah a large fries at carls jr is 850 calories which is almost half of what I eat in a day. Its bad and subway is no better. You can still eat fast food just look up the calories for restraunts maybe make a little sheet of what you like. You wont be eating it as much though cause when you look down at a 1000 calorie meal thats tiny you will say no.

Re: Fast Food sucks!!

I agree about the fast foods. Most of them are yuck. Once I cleaned out my taste buds, I have found that my tastes are much more discriminating. I had ONE Dunkin' Donut last week. I haven't had one in several months. It completely tasted like garbage--and not good garbage at that.

As for ideas, when I am out I look for Subway if I want something. There are apples at Mcdonalds, white milk and yogurt parfait. All of those are okay options. They have salads but you will really need to read the dressing labels. As we all know, some of the dressings are a killer.

The other night I went to eat at an italian joint for dinner, I took my own bottle of dressing. LOL. There I was in a candlelit, upscale rest. with my bottle of generic dressing wrapped in saran wrap (to prevent leaking) in the top of my purse. LOL. I don't even trust the wait staff to give me the lowfat!
