| Weight loss foods Over the last few days I have been looking at the ingredients of many of the foods that people mention on various forums in pursuit of their goal of losing weight.
I have tried several of these processed foods and wonder why anybody would chose them instead of fresh natural foods if they really wanted to lose excess body fat.
Even though the manufacturers of these processed foods claim their food is healthy and great for people who want to lose weight, it seems to me that fresh natural foods are much healthier and more suitable for easily and safely losing excess fat.
These processed foods confuse my understanding of my own body’s real needs. The refined sugars, the artificial sweeteners, the artificial flavourings, preservatives and colourings cause my body to respond in a way that is very different from what the manufacturer seems to be telling me to expect.
No I don’t have more energy, I don’t feel great and that body fat remains instead of melting away like the images of skinny people in their advertising and on the packets would seem to suggest.
My local greengrocer makes no misleading claims about their fresh crisp crunchy juicy refreshing products. I have lots of energy when I enjoy vegetables raw or lightly steamed with grilled fish, skinless chicken breast fillet, game meat or tuna.
The fresh natural products also seem to be better value for the money. |

| Re: Weight loss foods George131 I wonder about that link about acid reflux you placed in your post.
Have you purchased that book?
Was the information in that book useful to you?
I used to suffer severe stomach ache.
My doctor prescribed Nexium and told me that I would probably have to continue taking that for the rest of my life.
I felt shocked to hear that.
I know some other people who are permanently on that or similar medications.
I did not like the idea of continuing on this medication. Nor did I like the cost of it.
I was reading the book "Fit for life" by Harvey Diamond. and he wrote about food combining.
What foods combine well in a meal and what food combinations to avoid.
I followed his recommendations and was able to discontinue taking Nexium and have never again taken medication for stomach pain.
Basically do not eat fruit with any other food types. Do not eat meat with grains or starches - so much for meat and potatoes, steak and chips, fish and chips and all those traditional dishes!
I would not recommend Harvey Diamond's book "Fit for life" as my health suffered as I followed his dietary advice, especially the one of eating only fruit before midday.
I would be more willing to recommend Great Taste No Pain! - A Breakthrough For People With Stomach Problems Who Want Instant Relief Without Drugs, Surgery Or Rabbit Food
I have not purchased her book however I guess it is every bit as good as the free tips she sends.

See the natural products in my opinion tend to cost more, and that is a big deterrant, especially in a worsening economy like this one.

| Re: Weight loss foods I live in Melbourne, Australia and like to minimize the cost of my food.
Pies may seem cheap at $3.19 for 6 pies (900 grams) however cabbages which weigh more than 2 kilograms are sometimes $2. I often buy fish at the market for $4 per kilogram. Broccoli is often on special for less than $2 per kilogram, Carrots sometimes $1 per kilogram. Potatoes often $2 for 3 kilograms. I am enjoying a very big ripe avocado which was 90 cents.
While skinless chicken breast fillet is usually above $10 per kilogram, in Australia kangaroo mince is available for $7 per kilogram. Kangaroo is a game meat and has almost no fat.
Many vegetables are often available at lower prices in peak season, when their nutritional properties are best. I usually find fruit expensive and I buy it only when its price is low. I don't think fruit is as important as vegetables.
Sure it does take some time and effort to find lower prices, however I find it makes a huge difference to the cost.
I wonder how prices here compare with the prices in other countries. |

| Re: Weight loss foods I look at the calories on food labels. I also eat sensibly. I think we all know what foods we shouldn't be eating, but we end up eating them anyway. Just stick with the whole grains, and stay away from the bad starch foods. Also, don't skip breakfast, that's an important meal. |

| Re: Weight loss foods I find it is not only the calories on the food labels. It is also the sweeteners, the flavourings, the preservatives and colourings that tend to confuse our understanding of our body's needs. When I try some of these processed foods instead of the fresh natural foods that I enjoy when I want to lose weight, I think I can really understand one of the reasons why so many people are having such great difficulty losing excess body fat. Some of those processed foods seem almost addictive.
I certainly did not know what foods that were making it difficult for me to lose weight. It has taken me many years to learn the truth and discover where to get correct information. I think most people are misinformed. I certainly was and I know that I still have much more to learn.
I have the self discipline to stick to my choices so I don't eat those foods that I plan to avoid. Yet by designing an eating plan that suits your own needs, your desires, your lifestyle and your preferences you will lose the weight you want to lose without having to rely so much on self discipline.
While whole grains are likely to be a better choice than refined grains, many people would lose weight more healthily, easily and quickly by reducing the amount of grains and increasing the amount of fresh green vegetables.
I guess that if farm animals fatten more when fed grains than when grazing, maybe humans do too.
I totally agree that breakfast is an important meal. |

| Re: Weight loss foods In England at the moment fruit and veg are cheaper than they have been as most supermarkets are cutting the prices to encourage people to eat more healthily. I know strawberries are good for weightloss, fish ( non oily of course) is also good as well as lean chicken. I think you have to be prepared to spend what it takes to eat healthily rather than using it as an excuse to not buy healthy foods. Shop around too - sometimes you will need to go to a couple of shops to find what you are looking for xxxx

| Re: Weight loss foods When I was in Australia I was always impressed with the restaurants that catered to eating more healthy, nutritional foods. They also had 5 times the amount of vegetarian/vegan restaurants than we have here in the US. I never made it melbourne though I started in Sydney and headed north. |
