anyone ever had shingles? i still have the phn from it and sometimes i feel i have to eat or bing on foods to relieve the tension

Hi hollandorange,

Yes, almost 4 years ago I had shingles in my right eye and extending around the right side of my head including the tip of my right ear. My hearing was not effected but my right eye has some permanent damage. I had the most luck with it by keeping strictly to the Zone diet and using a special highly concentrated purified fish oil supplement. Excluding the involvement with my eye, the rest of the pain subsided for good by about 6 months after the initial onset.

I was also given a month of Famvir treatment (anti-viral med) as soon as it was known
that I had shingles, though this wasn't until about a week after the initial symptoms began. It's said Famvir shortens the duration of PHN. My opthalamologist, who treated my shingles because of the eye involvement, said it would have been much better if I had begun taking the Famvir earlier on, when the initial symptoms appeared.

hi SueK24 i think vitamin b12 helps 800cg a day and i eat less now

i heard the pain out last the rash. pain can linger for months or years in a patient with PHN. low doses of tricyclic (antidepresants) would relieve the pain of shingles.

Strengthening the immune system is important in preventing the shingles outbreak. Anyway, there is this video on youtube (search for vygone) which my son used and it did wonders for my him, he had an out break in his torso. He applied vygone and that night it was already less painful. Before we knew it he was all healed up and they never returned.
