Howdy all,

I haven't been here for two years because I had a wildly successful year from about 2009-2010 during which I went from 260 and some change down to 160, finally levelling off around 170 (at 160 I actually looked gaunt). I managed it by pure calorie counting with very moderate exercise -- *walking*, not running, roughly one mile a day which was only good for a couple hundred calories. I generally ate between 1200 and 1600 calories and burned 2000-2600 a day so my deficit was usually 700-1000 a day and I dropped 1.5 to 2 pounds a week.

Great success story, right? I stopped checking in here and stopped measuring every gram, confident that I could just eyeball the calories and make a rough estimate of how much I was eating and burning each day.

Then things got bad. First, we moved to a place out in the country where the roads are all mud and rock, making my daily walks difficult; then I went back to the old habit of eating as much as I wanted whenever I got hungry rather than filling up on water first. By the end of the next year, I was back up over 200 and my arthritis was coming back again.

We moved yet again to a place where I have paved road all around, and I got back on the wagon: Daily walks of at least one mile, usually two, sometimes twice a day; later I added to that 40-60 minutes a day on the stationary bike inside. I'm also better about drinking one or two half-gallon pitchers of water (flavored with Splenda) and if I have ice cream more than once every six months I'm surprised. So my calorie consumption is still in the 1400-1800 range, while the amount I burn has gone up significantly in the 2500-3000 range. Spinach and other vegetables make up at least 50% of my lunch and dinner diet (cereal and skim milk at the most 400 calories for breakfast).

So... why the heck am I not able to lose any of that regained weight? Each week I might see a drop of a pound or two that is back again the next time I step on the scales -- I managed to get as low as 195 a couple of times, but mostly I bounce around between 198 and 205. With my big success I preached nonstop on the simple effectiveness of just keeping that 700-1000 a day calorie deficit, but when that no longer works for me I'm going to have to rethink my strategy.

The one other major lifestyle change from my first success is that I'm no longer taking antihistamines. Back then, I treated a chronic sinus problem with off-brand equivalent of Actifed... you know, the little red ones that get you put on the FBI lists because they think you're using them to make methamphetamines. Well, there's a reason they think so: Those little things were giving me the jitters so much that I had to quit cold turkey; I frequently couldn't get to sleep until after 2AM and woke up again shaking 3 or 4 hours later. Obviously I can't go back to that stuff for the sake of the diet -- it was destroying my productivity at work.

Help! I'm so frustrated I can't see straight. Has anyone else regained lost weight and then been unable to shake it off? :(

Hi guys,

I have a program called Weight Loss Engine Room (WLER for short) Workbook which I created in Microsoft Excel using a lot of macros and research materials from all over the "NET".

It has helped my wife lose over 12.5kg's (27.5lbs) in just 11wks; I'm very keen to promote it in American with the help from some genuinely motivated people who do need to lose weight. If you're interested, please leave me a message in my private inbox.

Fad Diets Feed the Obesity Addiction

Hi my name's Steve, fortunately, I don't suffer obesity, but my wife, Leanne has all her adult life (she's now on the wrong side of 50). In the 20 years we've been together, I don't know how many "Fad Diets" she's been on, but I can say, if we had a dollar for every fad diet she has tried, we'd now be millionaires!

My frustration with fad diets is that it feeds the obesity addiction because when you go off those diets, within nine months you've packed on all the weight and more! In fact, in just nine months of finishing a fad diet, Leanne will packed on over 20 kilos and seemingly without any real effort?

So out of frustration, I decided to take a mathematical and scientific approach to weight loss; preferably incorporating as many of our normal foods as possible (in the main we eat healthy foods). I did this because I wanted this new diet to naturally transition into a lifestyle and not another "Fad Diet". In the past, I've also found that fad diets generally cost us a lot of money to stay on and result in us having to spend hours preparing and cooking meals we don't normally eat.

The diet I created for Leanne takes a more holistic approach to weight loss as we factor in the following nutritional parameters when counting calories:

Daily calorie intake

Daily carb grams

Daily fat grams/percentage; and

Daily sugar grams

After 11 weeks on this new and holistic approach to weight loss, Leanne has lost over 12.5 kilos (or an average of 1.14 kilos per week); most importantly, we're able to continue eating up to 90% of our regular meals, so we're not having to spend more money on groceries or extra time preparing and cooking unfamiliar meals. Because of Leanne's injuries, she's not having to spend hours exercising either. The most amazing finding has been providing Leanne operates within the daily nutritional parameters, she's able to almost guaranteed to lose weight on a daily basis.

Unlike "Fad Diets", Leanne does not pop weight loss pills or live on meal replacement shakes at the expense of eating nutritional meals.

so if anyone is interested in learning how it all works, feel free to contact me. I'd love to help you lose weight the proper way - the long term and healthy way.

Regards,

Steve.

I started running quite a bit (shooting for 500 miles in 2013 right now a bit over 200) and still hike/climb/canyoneer/cave/backpack etc... My eating habits are always spotty. If I focus on them it's easy to lose weight because I'm so active, but for the most part I'm not very careful about what I eat. Probably why I'm not super super skinny.

I'm a bit over 3 years into maintenance now. Pretty crazy, right? I've been maintaining longer than I was in losing mode. And I was in losing mode for a long time. 1.5 years or so. Absolutely focused back then. Nowadays not so much. But my weight right now is the lowest it has been probably all the running.

How are the rest of the maintainers doing?

So anyway I finally went on a diet that I could stick to. It took me six months but I've lost 30 pounds and totally rearranged my fast food eating habits. I simply eat 3 meals a day, 3 small snacks in between. Everything I have is grilled and as oilless as possible. I also learnt to cook so I'm not that reliant on fast food anymore and I've even started to enjoy my time with my George Forman Grill.

I thought i'd share this with you guys. I do have a diet regimen I stick to if you guys want that? I also recommend reading quick-cook books that help you learn the basics of cooking.

I feel great guys. Even though I have 40 more pounds to go, if you change yourself, youll get the losses that you want slowly.

Thought I'd tell you there's hope for us all.
