working out and plateau
Hi there! I am new to the forum, and have a question I have been dying to ask. It seems that when I exercise regularly at the gym, I stall in my weight loss. If it is walking back and forth to work at a lighter pace, this does not happen. I also tend to eat more when I am working out more heavily (I get the answer to that one!). Does anyone else notice this? I have a few student athletes who mention this, but they are working out very heavily in the extreme heat, so are dealing with a dehydration issue.

Weight loss is all about energy balance. If you workout harder, yet out eat the extra energy you expend working out harder... the net outcome is a stall.
When I train intensely... I certain get hungrier, but I always have control of my 'energetic balance' so stalls are much less likely.

bjconnor--yep, you are right..when you first begin exercising your weight will stall or creep up..keep up the good fight though because it is short lived.....when you begin seriously exercising your muscle tries to "repair itself" and retains water in doing so....several days later though you will see it drop again though and nicely at that if you are also watching calories closely..BTW-this isn't my explanation--it's Weight Watchers stance on explaining this phenomenon
