| Sauna belts I have a friend who drinks no where near as much water as I do yet wants to wear one of those sauna belts. Although she sweats doesn't she need to be putting fluids BACK into her body as well? Plus are there any advantages with wearing one of those things? I tried a few times a while back but it left like burn marks on my stomach. Don't want that anymore. I figure a brisk walk and housework to the point where I sweat is good enough for me.

Sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't waste your time or skin on that one.

| Re: Sauna belts Back in the 70's there was a "TV documercial" for a sauna suit. It was a plastic contraption with wrist and ankle bands that sealed your body heat in and caused you to lose short term amounts of "weight" by fluid loss.
Of course being the tightwad that I am, I made my own sauna suit from two large plastic lawn/grass bags. I made holes for my arms and head from one, and made holes for my legs in another. I put this outfit on and covered it with a sweatshirt and sweat pants.
Then I got my 17 year old brother to play several sets of tennis with me on a summer day. I raised my core temperature to 1xx? and dumped probably a gallon or more of fluid, and during the match I had to punch a hole in the bottom of the torso bag to allow the fluid to leak out. By the time I realized I was in trouble, I was really in trouble.
I laid down (read passed out from heat stroke)on the tennis court, and my brother had to cut the outfit off of me with a Buck knife.
To passersby it must have looked like my brother had shot and killed a green buffalo and was in the process of skinning it.
I damn near died.
Gimmicks are not the way to lose weight.

:eek4::eek4::eek4::eek4::eek4::eek4: I remember in highschool they made wrestlers wear garbage bags under a sweat suit in the middle of the summer.

One of my rules of thumb, is that if you don't see health professionals suggesting it (doctors, dieticians, personal trainers, etc), it's probably just a scam.

| Re: Sauna belts Sauna devices are used today by professional wrestlers, boxers to help control their weight just before a bout. The only thing that sauna suits do, like the one sold at SuperSaunaSuits.com is to speed up your workout efficiency and warm up, rid your body of toxins, and shed a few pounds quickly.
By replenishing your body fluids, some of the weight will return. Care should always be taken to stay hydrated - best to use sports drinks like gatorade and powerade, specifically designed to replace lost nutrients and electrolytes. |

The sweating that you do during a normal workout is probably enough.

I personally wouldn't recommend anyone other than a professional athlete to use something like a sauna suit.
