I agree on protein powder + water =
I use skim milk, but what I do is add ice and milk, so I'm in essence using half milk half water and it comes out tasting like a milkshake.
Don't forget that you are getting the extra benefit of more protein from the milk, although every 8oz adds about 90 calories IIRC.

Everything I'm reading indicates that it's very, very important to eat at least 1g of protein per lb of body weight (lean body weight aka muscle, bone etc.) to help maintain your muscle while losing weight.

Are there any protein shakes that I could buy from a grocery store that would be good? Also maybe that don't cost too much? Or is that just a dream?

The Nectar is $30.00 for a big jug. It has lasted me over a month maybe about a month. But I drink 1 a day....thinking of going to 2. If you go to a GNC or something I am sure you can find something there too. Just look at the calories and carbs and such when buying.

I usually eat about 200 calories for breakfast (which is when I would be drinking the shake), is that not enough?

So you can see that NO FAT NO CARBS is very good for this protein. That is why I said I need to up my amount to 2 I think a day.

Maybe I'll check out the stuff locally before I decide to buy off the internet.

| Re: Question about protein Wish you luck. But yes the cherry is the one I have found to be overall best as far as nutrition info (calories, fat, carbs). There are really good tasting ones out there but that comes along with calories.
Don't get me wrong there are days when it just does not taste good to me. Just need to chug it as quick as I can.....but not too often. I think it has to do with me just not wanting it at that moment.

| Re: Question about protein Hello, I agree with protein + water, You should take supplements that have been demonstrated to be safe, both in quantity and quality. Some vitamins are essential in small quantities but dangerous in large quantities, notably Vitamin A. I take my supplements from xxxxxxxxxxx

The fact that many people have a tough time getting adequate protein in though, through food alone, makes whey powder a viable option to utilize.
And I'm with everyone else... I drink my whey with milk.
When cutting down though, sometimes I must resort to water as I like my calories to come from food when cutting for satiety reasons. |

Perhaps Steve would like to tell us how many grams of protein we need per pound of body weight and if that amount is based on how much lean muscle we have or total body weight.
High protien diets are unsafe. | Americans diet is scewed towards high glycemic carbs and bad fat, both need to be cut and for the most part people are hugely lacking in protein intake. The government suggests somehwere in the range of .6 to .8g per pound of body weight (total) however at least 1 if not closer to 2 is much better for you as you're trying to either cut weight and keep muscle or gain muscle mass. The key is to make sure that your body NEVER goes after your LBM between meals.
Please read this concerning high protein diets... Bodybuilding.com - Layne Norton - Are High Protein Diets Safe? Dispelling The Myths.

| You are very good at
1. Making blanket statements.
2. Putting words in my mouth.
Have you ever actually analyzed the diet of a client? At this point I'm assuming you are a trainer or something of the like.
Did I ever say we need supplementation? Quote: |
