| I need to switch up my working out huh? If I continue to do the jogging/walking and my abs and squats is it true that I will eventually stop seeing results?? Or is that not going to happen for some time?

Read that, start increasing the intensity of your workouts. Need to be doing some type of exercises to keep the muscle mass you have, pushups (bench press), squats, lunges etc.

Are you familiar with the law of diminishing returns?

| Re: I need to switch up my working out huh? Ok cool. So keep to my jogging/walking. Add some squats and such...and see if I can go longer on my jogging or faster. Then adding weights in at some point will be good.....but for now this is a start.

If a person brand new to exercise were to run 20 minutes a day, at first that person's heart rate would be very high, each time they exercised. Good cardio exercise! What if this same individual has been running 20 minutes a day every day for the last 3 months. By now this person's heart should be used to running 20 minutes a day and this person's heart would not beat as fast and they would not get the same intense workout as they did when they first started running. The more you keep doing this same thing the less effective it becomes.

| Re: I need to switch up my working out huh? You want to keep your body constantly adjusting to meet the demands you place on it. Don't become predictable because the body will find the way to do what you ask it to with the least amount of effort, ie. it just gets more efficient.
There are many ways of changing up a weight resistance program - use different equipment, change the weight used and the number of reps, add more or subtract sets, decrease the amount of rest time between sets. But the goal is always to increase intensity no matter how it's done.
The same principles apply to a cardio routine. Run longer some days, then on others shorter and faster, etc. Or run stadium steps or do a spinning class occasionally.
And, I actually think the same ideas work with nutrition and dieting too. Don't eat the same way, the same foods, the same number of calories every day. Many bodybuilders allow themselves one day a week where they allow themselves to eat anything they want.

Good points you two, sometimes I forget this myself and get in a rut!
