loose skin after losing weight
My arms are better toned now and so they no longer jiggle when I shake them. That's good news since I feel bad and sorry for women getting 'wings' on their arms (unsightly sagging skin) as they get older.
But since I'm looking more into losing more weight around my lower areas (hips, butt, thighs) I'm worried about loose skin there. I don't want to fit into a bikini but have my loose skin waving at everyone.
Please, what exercises do you know that will help tighten my skin quick since I'm losing weight at a pretty good rate. Thanks!!!

Re: loose skin after losing weight
Exercises won't fix loose skin really....unless you build lots of muscle

Re: loose skin after losing weight
This is right words for you if you are making your muscles through exercise so exercise is no matter for your skin problem.

The best way is to strength train to build muscle. I have currently lost just over 45 pounds, but the skin on my arms and legs is not loose, because I was strength training as a part of my exercise routine. I currently use a Total Gym and the exercises for the areas you mentioned which I use are: Hip Abduction>>press outward with both legs against resistance; Lunges; Leg Pull>> kind of like a pull-up, but using your legs instead of your arms; Squats. These are a few of the exercises that I use and they have really firmed-up what once was very flabby. I hope that I explained them well enough for you to be able to adapt to your type of equipment. If not, please let me know and I'll try again

Re: loose skin after losing weight
I have found also that as I lost weight slowly the excess skin isn't as bad as it would have been with quick weightloss, but I do think when I hit my goal I may still have to have surgery to sort out my stomach xxx

Re: loose skin after losing weight
The skin is an organ and will retract, or from what I've been told. All I can tell you is to really focus excerising on the places you want to reduce the excess skin.

Re: loose skin after losing weight
You can't spot reduce Sarah, sorry! I wish it were that easy. The skin doesn't always retract either. It depends on several factors--age and genetics, physical conditioning as well as other things. Strength training definitely helps but if you really want to be done with it, surgery is the way to go.

Re: loose skin after losing weight
this was actually a really big consern for me when i got serious.. and it stalled me up for a few weeks fretting over it. I think i came to the same answer(s) that have been given here.. if i lose it "slower" and doing mostly stranghth training i would have a lot less flappy skin left at the end then if i just went all cardio and dropped the weight a lot faster.. then the skin has not time to reform itself and your not doing anything to tighten it..... reading this post shows me that i may actually have been right! i say remember this is a life time change your making by changing how you eat " eat like the thin person you want to be" and tone! your wanting to be healthy and strong not just ..thin good luck! your not alone in your worries

Re: loose skin after losing weight
I'm new here and I don't know nearly as much as most of you about this, but the other day at my gym, one of the trainers told me something really interesting. If you do decide to get the operation to remove your excess skin, look around first for someone who will donate the skin to a burn center. They'll actually be able to use it to graph burn victims. So not only do you feel better about yourself, but you're really doing something great for someone else. Hope this helps/makes more people wanna do it!!! =]
