In fact, you can boil it down to two simple rules:
Get your body moving on a regular basis; and
Eat a moderate amount of real, whole foods (with occasional indulgences).

Totally agree. That's pretty much it in a nutshell.

I agree on the very general principles, but if it were my 2 sentences I'd be a little more specific and say:
Get your heart rate up for at least 20 minutes straight on a regular basis; and
Eat the right amount of real, whole foods (with occasional indulgences) that allows you to get down to, or maintain your target weight.

I think if we remember all the fun things we use to do when we were younger and do them now it would be exercise to burn up calories but keep us in shape to.
When I was young we walked everywhere. I grew up in a small town on the Gulf of Mexico and we would walk to the local marina where the pier was and fish all day, (and that pier was long so the walk was not short one at all) We walk back and forth from our friends house. We never stayed still long enough for a caloire to built fat on us, it got burned up as soon as we ate anything.
Just because we are older does not mean we give up doing fun things we love to do.
I think that may be some of our problems today with adults, we just do not move our bodies enough anymore. Get out and have fun and laugh and be happy.

The difference for many of us is lack of time, or physical inability to do some of things things, HOWEVER, if you want it bad enough, you'll make time for it! So I say do it!
Go teepee your neighbors house!!!
Did I just say that?

I use to stay so busy with my life but now that my husband and I are retired we both are more relaxed and taking things slow and easier than before. We try to do fun things together and eat healthier to. Guess by the time we get older we realize how important those things are to us but just never slowed up before to even notice it.
