| Gym headphone suggestions. Gym headphone suggestions.
I am one who likes to use headphones in the gym sometimes, so I thought I would share what I think are great headphones for the gym and for personal life.
Now, my personal opinion is that earbuds (in the ear) are the way to go. Light, unobtrusive, and less likely to break. Plus they don't look as silly :p
So which ones are good? Now, there's a high priced and low priced brand that both work well, but the question is how much of a music buff are you? Of course these can double as your regular use headphones as well, so you may want to consider a pair you can enjoy for both the gym and home/personal use.
Koss sparkplugs are great for light workouts, and have good sound and incredible bass, and are probably the best ear buds on the market at or under $20. The only problem is if you sweat profusely any earbud can get a little nasty. Consider getting ear buds where the piece that goes in your ear is not made out of a spongy foam like material. That material will soak up sweat VERY quickly. Look for ear buds that come with the option of a plastic piece that goes in your ear.
That being said, I own a more expensive earbud made by Shure. Regarded as one of the best earbuds on the market, they come with 3 types of pieces to go in your ear, 2 of which are plastic and won't apsorb sweat. The plastic pieces also come in different sizes since we all have different shaped ears. The wires that lead to the ear pieces from your radio/mp3 player form fit to the shape of your ear, so you can wrap them over your ears and they stay in place perfectly. I've never had them fall out. The cheapest ones are about $99, but can be found at online electronic stores for much less than that. You can go to epinions.com to see the prices of various electronic stores. (Same for the Koss ear buds). The sound quality for the Shures are incredible. I bought the E4c model and they blow away the sound quality of any earphone I've ever had.
Hope this helps anyone in the market!

Still pretty pricey for their entry level headphone.

| Re: Gym headphone suggestions. The brand I use is Maxwell NC-11. THey are BIG, like radio dj style, but that's all I can use, that will stay in my ears. I look like an idiot on the treadmill in the gym though! It's ok.... they're comfortable and I love them.
Hope you find the right headphones! |

- Dustin | Those are pretty crappy headphones, I had a set myself. You should at least look into spending under $20 for the Koss Sparkplugs. Great upgrade IMO!

I have 2 sets from Etymotic Research, the ER6 ($99 retail, $89 at jr.com) and the Er4 ($300 retail at etymotic.com, but discounted to $180 at jr.com), both are passive, in-the-ear, noise reduction ear buds.
The er4 is the best I have heard, bar none.
The er6 are a fine set for the more budget minded but who still want very good quality. |
