| What Are Some Fun Exercises To Get A Couch Potatoe Moving?
I want to exercise, but I have an active mind that runs 90 to nothing so I get bored pretty quick. I'm not very atheletic, no coordination, LOL, and I never have learned how to rollerskate. Anyone know of some fun things I can try that won't feel like "work"?

I dont know about you but I like to go to the zoo and walk. I can spend hours there walking around looking at everything or even going to a museum. It may not be aerobic but it is still burning calories.

Actually when I was @ my worst (423lbs), my doctor gave me a wonderful gift. It was this long, elastic band with a handle on either end. He then gave me a small chart of exercises I can start trying while sitting down. The best one was placing the elastic bands (with a door nook) on either the side or top of a door and closing it to keep it in place, then you sit down on a comfortable chair and you can work on triceps, biceps, and the same with either leg. It really helped me loose the initial weight I needed to loose before having my lap-band surgery. There are others, but this one was the easiest of them the way I see it.

My favorite way to work out is by jumping on my rebounder (mini trampoline) in front of the tv. I watch my fave shows...Big Brother, America's Next Top Model, Project Runway and so forth and it makes the time just fly by...and my bf doesn't mind watching me do it either...haha...
I also own a wiifit....and it is pretty awesome too...I love the hulahoop game and I even don't mind running on the spot to it in my living room...ooh and the boxing is fun and the balance games and so on and so forth...I could go on and on about my wiifit...I love it!
Ooooooh I liked the zoo idea too...I can spend hours there just walking around too! The mall can be fun too but you gotta stay away from the food and the stores...ahahaha.

I have a WiiFit and I enjoy it, but sometimes it doesn't really get your heart rate going.
I like the mini trampoline idea, I have a big one outside, but I'd love to have a little one to use in the house!

I completely agree about wiifit...it is definetly just a supplement to your exercise regime...but the games are fun! And it is deffa better then sitting on the couch! The only real downfall of the game is that it gets upset at you if you don't weigh yourself every morning...which is a bit hard for me cause I take all of the fluctuations to heart...so if I weigh myself everyday it is hard to see the whole picture when I go up .7 lbs after sticking perfectly to my program.
Oh and the rebounder is awesome! There are even websites devoted to exercises to do on them.....I usually just run on the spot and hop around a bit though, but I would suggest a rebounder to everyone...they are super cheap at walmart too!

I see that they now have video games where you interact with them. They have tennins, bowling and other sports and maybe more to than what I know of. I know they have been using them in old folks home for the seniors citizens to get them moving.
They look like they would be fun.

We use the WIIFit in the rehab unit I work at in the hospital. It is really fun watching the older people play it. It's cute watching them bowl and play tennis and do the balance things on it. They really seem to enjoy it.

I'd try to find a partner if you could for any activity to make it more fun. Intramural sports are always good, maybe a coed softball team?

I simply put on some fast music I love and dance, I also love to box, it makes you feel kind of powerful, finding your core so to speak, other times I also like to work on my ski form actually pretending to ski, it may look silly, but it does work.

I like the Shimmy program that comes on FIT TV. I have a belly dancing belt with coins that dangle from it and I have been known to "shake it like a salt shakah!" |

These are the things I like to do that also keep my mind occupied: - watching favorite TV programs while on treadmill/ellpitical/etc. or while doing pilates at home
- swimming
- gardening
- hiking-- esp. nice this time of year!
- walking in nice neighborhoods with nice gardens, big pretty homes-- also esp. nice this time of year because of the flowers and it's not hot yet.
- bicycling- great even when it's hot because you can make your own breeze.
I bicycled last summer in 105 heat many times, no problem! - Zumba (you might be intimidated at first, but trust me, if you just let yourself feel the music, the moves come naturally. Just don't think about it too hard because that is what will mess you up).
- Hi/Lo aerobics classes (This depends a lot on the instructor, though, as does Zumba. By the way, if you order Zumba videos, the new ones are MUCH better than the original ones. Don't waste your money on the original ones.)
- Iyengar yoga (important to be iyengar, it really involves the mind)
- Pilates (also involves the mind-- but go to an actual instructor. Any at home practice should just supplement instruction because form is extremely important in pilates and the finer points are difficult to master without personal instruction.)
- Some home exercise videos are fun. I generally like Christi Taylor, Denise Austin, and Tamilee Webb. (Feel free to email me for other ideas if you want, I used to do home exercise videos a lot.)
- As others have said, just pop in a favorite CD and dance on your own!
Just try a bunch of things and see what you enjoy! Do a little something every day. After a while, you'll get in the habit and you'll hate to miss a day.
