Is fast walking everyday going to really help me lose weight?

Or do I need to speed things up and do more?

I do about 1 1/2 miles a day. Sometimes more. Like this weekend.
I just want to make sure that doing this will help me lose weight or do I need to focus on other stuff and do more.

I also do crunches and such at home. But boy would I like to see a toned body in the mirror instead of a "round" one.

Fast walking is a great start...but how fast are we talking here? My mother lost probably 75lbs doing nothing else differently other than starting a racewalking (powerwalking) regimen with a friend of hers.

If you haven't been exercising much in the past, this could be a good starting point for you. Will you burn as many calories as you would if you hit a stairclimber, elliptical machine, or fast paced treadmill? No.

If this is a significant increase over your prior activity levels then this will make a difference. A nice regimen to lose the weight consistently, but not too quick.

Yes it is a huge increase. that is why I am pushing myself to try to do it as much as I can. Whether at 5:30 am or 2 pm here. Just something to get the heart going.....

And a chance to get some sun.

I would love more than anything to lose these last 10 lbs before Sept 1st but I am not looking to starve myself or hurt myself. So if I can get down to 125 I will be super super happy.
