| Am I just making excuses? I have been doing some thinking which all comes to I ain’t as young as I use to be.
I have been trying to figure out my lack of motivation and why it seems to be getting worse and I am wondering if it is (and it pains me to admit it)the fact that I am in my latter 40s heading to 50 and not in my 20s anymore.
I forced myself to go work out last night but I did not get much out of it because the bottom line is I’m tired. I am trying to do some sort of exercise everyday and but it is getting more and more difficult. Then it hit me… I am considerably older than I was back in my hard core martial arts days and I worked out about 2 hours a day and from what I have been reading of late as we get older we need more recovery time and I have been giving myself little or none.
So I am wondering if it would not be more beneficial to me at this time to do a killer workout 2 or 3 days a week instead of the split cardio one day strength the next day I have been trying to maintain 6 to 7 days a week and of late failing miserably at.
I would still be taking my 30 minute walk at lunch everyday, weather permitting, and doing my taiji just about everyday but the stationary bike, weights, push ups, sit ups, leg raises, etc would be relegated to 2 or 3 days a week.
Does this make sense to anyone else, does this sound like a plan or am I just making excuses justify my current failure to maintain the routine I have set up for myself?

The walks are fine, but 6-7 days of strength training? I'm not sure if I'm reading that right. I noticed you said working out at night....that's tough too. Can you go earlier? It's hard for some people to have high energy late at night.
I struggle big time to maintain a 3 days on, one day off routine, and I'm 29. I lift heavy weights for about an hour and a half or so each day I work out, then do HIIT for 20 minutes or a steady paced cardio for a longer period of time immediately after. I'm sore as all getup too. The later I go I find the harder it is as well.

It has, or was, 3 days cardio and 3 days strength with the 7th day for whatever I felt like doing but I am damn tired from that, didn’t use to be but then like I said I was in my 20s then.
As for the time I am trying to do this around 8:00pm to 9:00 pm, that is just about all the time I have right now. I have stopped doing any of this any later however. Actually of late I have stopped doing it all together, like I said I am tired.
I am probably going to have to go to 3 days a week but I just want to make sure I am not just making excuses before I do. Quote:

Gotcha! Can you combine your strength training and cardio on the same day?

Also I have been checking the site MikeB suggested and I am getting some good ideas from there.
