Strong Muscles Lower Cancer Risk

Here's some new research I ran across--more reasons to consider weight training as an exercise strategy:

Re: Strong Muscles Lower Cancer Risk

Thanks for posting the study! My guess initially was going to be that the reason for these results was that those who lifted weights were less likely to be obese, and since obesity increases your chances of getting cancer......well there's your correlation. The study does say that even if you are obese, lifting weights still helps......

Time to go hit the weights myself.

He really thinks that? He apparently doesn't know much about training.

That is the furthest thing from the truth. Lifting weights has so many benefits it's ridiculous, and it's not just for guys.

Re: Strong Muscles Lower Cancer Risk

Yep, I actually prefer doing weights to using cardio machines, I feel like I've worked my body more.

Re: Strong Muscles Lower Cancer Risk

I think a combination of both is good--weights a few times a week and cardio on the other days. Most of the good fitness regimens have both.

Yep mine has both, weights on Mon, Tues, Wed (Cardio if I have time, on a tight schedule to get my boyfriend back in time for work) Cardio on Thursday, and we've also started going swimming for a few hours on Friday.

In instances where people have limited time, it's completely OK to do cardio and lifting in the same day.

I usually follow up all my lifting days with cardio.
