| 15 minutes > 45 minutes??? I read in one of my magazines that 15 minutes of HII (High Intensity Intervals) > 45 minutes of medium intensity treadmill workout. People lost 15 times the amount of fat doing HII as compared to doing a longer workout. You need to sprint (relative term) for 30 seconds then jog (relative term) until your are breathing normally again. As you do this over a few weeks increase the sprint time by 10 seconds and decrease the jog time by 10 seconds every week.
Everyone can afford 15 minutes of HII vs 45 minutes of drudging along on the treadmill.

| Re: 15 minutes > 45 minutes??? Remember that high intensity could just be a fast walk for you, everyone is going to be different. They key is to push yourself as hard as you can then rest back to normal breathing and then continue. I would have never thought I could run for 30 to 45 minutes w/o stopping but I can. Read my first post on my blog and look at how fast I was walking!!! Under 4MPH and it was killing me.

| Re: 15 minutes > 45 minutes??? HIIT looks hard Mike. Does one need to be of a certain conditioning level before hand? This looks like something to consult your doctor about before attempting,

| Re: 15 minutes > 45 minutes??? Yes, I would consult your Dr. There are various intervals you can do though, go to a local school and walk up and down bleachers, the up is the high intensity and down is the cool down. As you progress to jogging and then running up the bleachers you are able to control the intensity and the speed at which you walk down allows you to accomodate how long it takes for you to cool down. Another option is to walk/jog around a regular running track, as you get stronger you can run faster on the sprint portions (100M each side of track) and then walk and hopefully eventually jog the corners as you get stronger.
