Family, Freinds, Siblings & Obesity

This National Institute on Aging study of 12,000 Boston area residents is in this weeks New England Journal of Medicine .

Apparently the liklihood of a person becoming obese goes up 57 percent if a friend becomes obese, 40 percent if a sibling becomes obese & 37 percent if a spouse becomes obese. For best friends becoming obese the risk was over 200%!

Supposedly it becomes more acceptable if those around you become overweight. The statistics were slightly worse when the person who put on weight was of the same sex.

It is amazing how much the people around us can influence us!

Hmm interesting and I believe it can be true but it doesnt have to be, everyone around me still is eating all the same ol stuff that I used to induldge in. And over this past 16 months I have lost over 100 lbs while just watching them and not joining in.

Well thanks I will take that as a compliment lol. Its real hard and but just because I cant eat it and be at a normal weight doesnt mean hubby has to go without or so he tells me anyway.
But when he is on the road I dont have any of it laying around to temp me either.

i don't know if there is any correlation but i have noticed that women and men of similar builds and attractiveness seem to hang out together or group together. is it the chicken or the egg?

ive noticed the same, but i dont think it applies to me.
i dont have any fat friends, and most of mine are fashionable, but i dont care about stuff like that (not to sound like a snob).
i think that these people are similar from the start and evolved a bit together, no?
