This National Institute on Aging study of 12,000 Boston area residents is in this weeks New England Journal of Medicine .
Apparently the liklihood of a person becoming obese goes up 57 percent if a friend becomes obese, 40 percent if a sibling becomes obese & 37 percent if a spouse becomes obese. For best friends becoming obese the risk was over 200%!
Supposedly it becomes more acceptable if those around you become overweight. The statistics were slightly worse when the person who put on weight was of the same sex.
It is amazing how much the people around us can influence us!

i don't know if there is any correlation but i have noticed that women and men of similar builds and attractiveness seem to hang out together or group together. is it the chicken or the egg?

ive noticed the same, but i dont think it applies to me.
i dont have any fat friends, and most of mine are fashionable, but i dont care about stuff like that (not to sound like a snob).
i think that these people are similar from the start and evolved a bit together, no?
