Seaweed Diet Pills

Apparently, a lot of people are searching the internet lately for Seaweed Diet Pills as another quick fix to lose weight. I am curious, has anyone here actually tried Seaweed Diet Pills?

Re: Seaweed Diet Pills

I realize this is an older thread, but I wanted to comment on this subject based on my experience with seaweed extract as a whole. I’m a former homeopathic assistant that worked in a clinic in which we used a homeopathic solution to treat obesity. I have personally witnessed dozens of cases in which homeopathy aided people trying to lose weight. One of the main ingredients in this particular formula was Fucus vesiculosus (bladderwack) which a seaweed extract (obviously meaning rich in iodine) used to treat obesity, especially in individuals with an under active thyroid. It can also help to speed metabolic rate. I’m sure most of you have noticed that those ‘seaweed wraps’ are pretty popular as well.

As far as my experience with seaweed pills themselves, ideally they would work best in those with an under active thyroid hormone, but the levels of actual seaweed are either in too little or too large doses or even the wrong kind of seaweed. The ones with the excess amounts are particularly dangerous because of the hazards of too much iodine. They of course don’t discuss this on the label since they can hide under the ‘dietary supplement umbrella’ Of course it goes without saying that any seaweed extract should not be taken by anyone with hyperthyroidism, high blood pressure and/or any kind of heart disease. Fucus taken on it’s on can cause a substantial amount of weight loss, but because it is not to be taken for an extended period or in excess, you can understand why I personally think it should not be taken on it’s own.

Of course, at our clinic we didn’t deal with the insane ‘Lose 30 pounds in a week eating whatever you want” claims, so I don’t have much experience or belief in the quick fix products you mentioned. Again, if an individual wanted to lose a little weight by speeding metabolic rate or because of an under active thyroid…one might think about using seaweed pills. Of course, this isn’t ‘true’ weight loss I’m sure you’ll agree.

As I’ve said, I worked at a homeopathic clinic and thus believe that the only way for a true weight loss formula to work is if it not only stimulates the thyroid and increases metabolism, but also aids digestion and the assimilation of nutrients and the disposal of wastes. It should also work towards burning excessive fats and sugars in the body while simultaneously working towards curing abdominal protuberance permanently. In short, working towards keeping the weight off and redirecting the body structure as a whole so the body stays slims and toned far after the formula is taken last.

And I offer my apologies for somewhat hijacking your thread Mr. Admin/Soprano and for going off on a rant.
