Obesity: lack of reimbursement limits market potential

The obesity epidemic is taking place in all of the seven major markets and has resulted in the prevalence of obesity being 136 million in 2006, forecast to reach 162 million by 2015, with a CAGR of 1.9%. Despite the increasing obese population, the capital gains from the anti-obesity market do not keep up with this growth. In all markets discussed apart from Spain and UK, the revenue growth only takes place because of the rise in price, with the volume of sales staying on the same level, or declining.
