WOMEN with polycystic ovary syndrome are prone to obesity because misbehaving hormones don't quash their appetites, new research suggests.
South Australian scientists have made a discovery which could finally explain why women with the common gynaecological problem are more likely to be overweight.
Professor Robert Norman, from University of Adelaide's Research Centre for Reproductive Health, will tell the International Congress on Obesity he has found a group of hormones that behave strangely in women with the condition, keeping them perpetually hungry. About one in 10 Australian women have the condition, one of the most distressing complications is infertility.
