Wink Tips for resisting holiday temptations

It's already started. People are baking, baking, and even in the stores when I try to shop they've got the cookies laid out. I try not to even see them, and usually am successful unless reeeally hungry. Dangerous time, right? So...I've got a few little tricks to keep the ol' resolve strong.

My fave is this: When the sweets cravings tug, I promise myself to later have FUDGE SAUCE!

That is -- mix 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa with 2 tbsp Splenda, add water to disired consistency...it's only 40 calories. Heat if you want, pour it over artificially sweetened no-fat yogurt. OR, sweeten the yogurt with 1 tsp orange-flavored powder of Jello Sugar-Free gellatin. Swoony delicious. (1/2 cup ff yogurt 50 cal, 1 tsp sf jello flavor 10 cal, 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa, 40 cal. TOTAL: just 100 cal for a hot fudge sunday!)

What are your tips for resisting? It's gonna be a hard few weeks ahead...

Re: Tips for resisting holiday temptations

That is a good question. I wish you luck and will power. I myself have never been into sweets. So therefore it is easy for me to say I just don't want any.
Just before you grab any sweets think about all the hard work you have done!!!

Yeah this will be a very tough time and I am also kind of afraid of gaining weight again. I really love baking cookies and eating them as well of course :-) I looked for a few low-fat recipes for cookies and I am going to try one of these recipes tomorrow. Well and the most important thing is probably to keep the aim of losing weight in mind!

Kel, I've got a great No (bad)-fat No sugar cookie recipe from my diet book, I'll copy it here. One thing? Whole grain oat flour has fewer carbs & calories than whole grain wheat pastry flour, but since so many supermarkets don't carry the oat flour, this is where I order it online:
Bob's Red Mill - V2 - Whole Grain and Gluten Free Products and Recipes You may have to log in, then look on top for the red "Order Products" link, and scroll down to oat flour. Ok, here's the recipe:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Chocolate HEALTHY Cookies. As fun as junk food but contain more nutrients than most meals. (Re below, you can use the whole grain oat flour for the whole 1 1/4 cups flour if you like. The cookies come out finer-textured, but they're also great & crunchy with the quick oats.)
Cooking spray
1 cup quick oats ……………300 cal, 54 Total Carbs, Diet Fiber 8 g
1?4 c whole grain oat flour ……..110 cal, 23 Total Carbs, Diet Fiber 4 g
1/2 cup Splenda
**1/4 cup chopped walnuts ….192 calories
**1/4 cup dried cranberries ….140 calories
1 1/2 tablespoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 TBSP canola ………………….240 calories
3 TBSP water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup chocolate sauce (5 tbsp unsweetened **cocoa, 5 tbsp Splenda, mix, add water till it reaches 1/2 cup)
(unsweetened cocoa is only 20 cal per tablespoon)
Preheat your oven to 400º. Spray cookie pans with cooking spray.
In a bowl combine the oats, flour, Splenda, walnuts, blueberries, baking powder & baking soda. With a fork, spend 2-3 minutes “frothing up” the oil and water. Add the chocolate sauce & vanilla extract to the oil & water mixture, & combine with the dry ingredients.
Drop batter by rounded tablespoonfuls onto pans, flatten with fingers, & bake for 10 minutes. Cool 2-3 minutes, then move to cookie racks.
Another tip: You can press a "well" into the center of each unbaked cookie and fill it with sugar free preserves. I use apricot, strawberry -- pretty colors!
Yield: 10 cookies, 112 calories each
**Unsweetened non-alkalinized Cocoa powder has 29 times more antioxidants than broccoli. It also has the most antioxidants of chocolate products (followed distantly by dark chocolate – which, avoid when combined with saturated fat & sugar.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Whew! Done. Btw, the unsweetened cocoa I use is Hershey's, the little brown box, but any brand is okay as long as it's non-alkalinized (aka Dutch processed). Alkalinization destroys the antioxidants.

Love to all!

Re: Tips for resisting holiday temptations

I just lock myself in my house!

After not eating sweets for about 10yrs, I just don't crave them anymore. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.

Re: Tips for resisting holiday temptations

these are some great options.....

I am usually a sucker for the sweets if I go grocery shopping hungry. So, I usually send my hubby to get the stuff that is either by the bakery where the cookies are or by the freezers where the ice cream and what not are. But I do have to say, that I generally have to be in the mood for a sweet other wise I just don't see a point in it.

I do have to say though, that I agree with what Inlove had mentioned about when I pick something up, I just remember how far I have come and then I put it right back down.
