Talking Sweets cravings help

For sweets cravings, I learned this from my diet book "The Cardiologist's Wife's Chocolate too Diet" (on Amazon.com): dry mix *equal* amounts **unsweetened, non-alkalinized cocoa with Splenda, then add water & stir. A little water makes fudge sauce, more water makes a swoony chocolate drink. (For the drink don't use milk, which inhibits cocoa's huge amounts of antioxidants. Wait 2 hours, till your stomach empties, before drinking milk.)

Two tablespoons of the fudge sauce contains 8,000 antioxidants and only 40 calories. Even if you overdo it...80 calories for a double portion? 16,000 antioxidants? Cocoa is a miracle drug. It will make you happy too!

** Unsweetened, non-alkalinized cocoa is right down at your supermarket. Hershey's (the little brown box), Trader Joes, & Wild Oats/Whole Foods have great products.

Re: Sweets cravings help

I try to eat healthy every day and I do a pretty good job at it, but I do allow a little sweets, but I choose healthful ones. I love sliced apple with peanut butter, it is like candy. I also have a small square of chocolate after lunch and dinner, but I choose dark chocolate. I get that "Endangered Species" chocolate at Fred Meyer. I love dark chocolate and they have one that is 88% dark and sweetened naturally, so I satisfy my sweet tooth without getting a lot of sugar.

Um, dark chocolate still has huge amounts of fat & sugar. And "sweetened naturally" still means...sugar. Maybe they use dried fruit, honey, molasses or who knows, but sugar is still & always sugar. "Sweetened naturally" is a food industry scam word.

Re: Sweets cravings help

haha I agree dreamblooms. I mean, sugar is natural period. Doesn't make it right! Thank you for that idea. I think I will try and dip strawberries in the fudge like mixture and then experiment from there. I love splenda. Here is one for a salty and "crunch" craving. Instead of turning a complete healthy snack such as raw broccoli into a no no by dipping it in ranch, a way to save calories is to get a tub of fat free sour cream, a dry packet of ranch dip seasonings (that you find in the salad dressing isle) and add SLOWLY to the sour cream until you get it to the flavor strength you want. I was a bit overly excited and added way too much and it was so salty and strong that I about choked to death. Another thing I do to help with my sweet tooth is, I have a salt shaker that I mixed splenda and cinnamon in until I had it to the balance I liked and toast a piece of Sara Lees 45 cal piece of whole grain bread and then spray I cant believe its not butter spray (with no cals and no fat of course) onto the bread, sprinkle my cinn and splenda mix on and man its good. I only indulge in that when I am not doing really low carb of course but its really filling and all you have to count is the bread. I hope you like my ideas! Thanks again for yours.

Re: Sweets cravings help

Devonsmom, two brilliant ideas! I'm going to run right downstairs to try that cinn & splenda idea on...the egg white omelett my DH is making. I'm going to steal it, sprinkle on the c & s, then roll it up like a crepe. I'll have to eat it running, of course, because he'll be chasing after me. "My omelett! Come back thief!" Ha, night time is silly time.

Hey, you're doing fantastic! Look at all that weight you've lost! Well done!

Hate to break it to ya, but sweetened naturally doesn't mean it's low in sugar...you're still getting a lot in your system. Dark chocolate is the healthiest of the chocolates from its antioxidants....but still needs to be eaten in extreme moderation for health reasons.

Hi realgone,

"Sweetened naturally" still means sugar. Really really. Sugar comes in so many forms, including in fruit and especially in dried fruit. "Sweetened naturally" is a food industry scam term, honest. It all metabolizes into sugar same as those little white granules in the sugar bowl.

Fruit is important, for sure. Just...be aware. There aren't different kinds of sugars, honest.

P.S. Dark chocolate still has a lot of fat & sugar.

I learned back in the body building days when I was eating a lot of sweet potatoes that you can add pumpkin spice to a lot of things and make them taste like pumpkin, I think there is apple or apple pie spice also mix that with a little cinamon and put it in oatmeal

That is an awesome idea about the sweet potatoes. I add spenda and cinamon to mine but the pumpkin spices I would never had thought of. I don't know when the last time was I had a white potato. Sweet potatoes are my favorite now! They say they are about the same in nutritional value, just that most people really load up the white ones which is what makes them worse, I dont know if it is true but I certainly do limit what I put on my sweet ones. Thanks for the idea! Happy fat burning!

Re: Sweets cravings help

if you like pumpking pie, with a little bit of splenda and pumpkin spice you can turn your sweet potatoe basically in to pumpkin pie, I even thought about trying to find a way to make a low fat crust of some kind and bake this in to a pie.

Re: Sweets cravings help

I think I'm going to try the splenda & cinnamon on wheat bread. That sounds so yummy!! I'm not really a chocolate freak but it wouldn't hurt to have an backup for that time of the month (hehe). Thanks, I hate feeling like I can't have anything sweet out of fear of gaining weight.

put a little squirt of I can't believe is't butter spray on it first, that will soften the toast and help the splenda and cinnamon stick, that way it won't be so much like eating cinnamon covered cardboard.
