Hi alll.....so glad i've joined this disscussion group everyone seems to be doing so good, I hope some of that rubs of on me !!!so after two years of wheezing my way through life, I've decided I had enough and Im so happy I decided early on to lose the weight. Before I gained the extra 70 pounds or so im carrying around , I was an extremely happy healthy normal 19 year old girl then outta nowhere I developed severe depression and anxiety disorder!!!fortunately this was relatively quickly sorted out with medication and I went on to meet the love of my life!!!as well as things seemed to have been going by then it was actually the perfect cooking pot for obesity, combine complete happiness, weight gaining meds, a big appetite and constant affirmation that your beautiful no matter what = 70 pound weight gain in 6 months. So I've started the diet, now i need to get my butt in gear to sort out an excercise regime and hopefully I'll be on the right path!!I'd love to hear any1's advice on how to keep motivated??any advice would be helpful actually ....thanks all xxx...

Welcome to the site. This is a wonderful place to get tons of ideas and motivation. Everyone where is always very supportive and helpful, they have all helped me in my weight loss journey. For me what worked and kept me motivated was setting small goals, and as I would obtain those small goals they really kept me motivated and going towards my next small goal. When I started I knew I wanted to loose between 90 - 100 pounds but if I had focused on that right away I would have easily gotten discouraged. I started out at 245 so my first goal was to get out of the 240's then out of the 230's with my first mini goal (well the first big mini goal) to get to 199 and then I just kept going from there and it really worked to keep me motivated. I look forward to reading about your journey.
Johnita

Hi, Dini. Welcome to the forums! Glad to have you as a member. I started here in May, had a poor summer, then came back in October truly ready to get this weight off and work hard at getting healthy.
What have you decided is your best way to lose the weight? What kind of diet are you speaking of?
Good luck to you and wish you great success!

Hi Johnita, Im so glad to hear from you!!Even though you didn't know it you've been a big inspiration to me, I've read your threads and seen your photos and you've been one of the reasons I joined this site and decided to stick tp the diet so far!!!you should be so proud of how far you've come,it takes a strong woman to accomplish what you have!!in regards to your mini goal idea, that is actually fantastic, I think I;ll make my first goal to fit comfortably into my much too tight jeans haha!!hopefully that will keep me from getting too discouraged because sometimes it can all seen a little overwhelming!!

Good luck to you and wish you great success! | Hey fluffymomma, glad to hear your so determined, i wish i had that determination!!i can manage the dieting (most of the time) but the excercising is my downfall and as much as I'd like to be thin I'd love to be healthy again and climb the stairs without passing out haha!!Im counting calories and so far it's going good, well at least i think it is, 2 weeks on and i havent weighed myself but I know If I don't find an excercise I like, I'll get discouraged and give up and I don't want history repeating itself!!!what plan are you on??and how do you get the motivation to keep excercising??

I don't like exercising. Not at all. So much work. But I know I can't diet alone w/o some form of movement so I walk. I joined Weight Watchers, too. No one here will tell you this is easy. But if you stay focused and true to yourself, you will find yourself just doing it and you start feeling so much better. I have not lost alot and even gained this past week. But it's a new week for me ( My weigh in days are Thursday) and all I can do is start again and work harder.
When I walk, I listen to music. Helps take my mind of of how far I have walked. Next week I will be at our rec center 1.5 hrs 2x a week while my son is in Tae Kwon Do. Not sure I will work out that entire time but it takes me about 34 min to do 2 miles, and I figure I will go into the gym and do something else but again, I will be moving even if it means walking into the gym and walking out! LOL

Hi Dini. If you start trying different things I'm sure you'll find an exercise you really enjoy. I try to get up in the mountains and hike whenever possible because I get some really great views and depending on how social I'm feeling I either go out with friends or go on my own and get some nice reflection time. Once you find the right exercise you won't have any trouble fitting it into your schedule. So don't despair.
It's great that you're nipping the weight gain in the bud before it becomes something really tough to drop. 70 pounds is hard but not too scary in smaller chunks. And it won't take too long all things considered.
Anyway keep posting, I've found keeping the forum updated on my progress keeps my motivation up since I don't want to fall on my face in front of everyone.

Welcome Dini, I'm a newbie too! Congratulations on taking the first step and deciding to take care of your weight issue while you are young. Your attitude seems really positive which is a major part of success! The cool thing about being 19 is that your metabolism should be ready to just melt off those pounds, especially if you start a serious exercise program. Us old folks with our middle-aged metabolisms are going to be in awe at your progress, I just know it! Keep us posted and log in regularly to post your progress.

I've tried the walking thing but I know I wont stick to it, my mind wanders too much and I always think theres something better to be doing lol. I think I need to do some group activities so that I have more structure than what I enforce on myself because thats never enough for me !!I'd love to do dancing but money is tight, but I'll prob look into that further because I enjoy it so much, its like the excercise is hidden in it !!Thanks for the advice, everyone here is so kind and it's really uplifting to know it can be done with a little perserverance !!!!owww guess what?? I still haven't weighed myself but measured my waist and hips and I've lost 2 inches already, I'm ecstatic !!!

I'd love to take up dancing but money Is pretty much non existent so trying to find somewhere to do that for very little money is almost impossible so I think I'll have to continue the search!!
I know 70 pounds isn't too daunting compared with what other people are accomplishing and if people here are losing hundreds of pounds surely I can manage my meager little 70 pounds .gif) !!I've never felt so determined about something, its an amazing feeling and I plan to stick around as I think the people here will definetly keep me in check!!!
By the way congrats on your weight loss, you look amazing in your picture!!

So much so as in I've dieted and excercised before and only lost half a pound a month, which wasnt enough for me for the work I was putting in!!but this time around I dont care how slowly its comes off as long as it comes off at all!!! I hate to play the blame game but I think the meds might have skewed my metabolism somewhat, well either that or I aged 20 years over night lol!!Either way anyway it doesn't matter because Im going to stick with it this time so something will have to shift !!
Congrats on your success so far, keep up the good work!!

By the way congrats on your weight loss, you look amazing in your picture!! | Thanks, it's funny I've been doing this over a year now and looking at older pictures of me it's so weird. I can't believe how much bigger I was. Even just 6 months ago I don't look like the same person.
On dancing, have you tried meetup.com? I looked in my zip code and there are a ton of dancing groups. I didn't research further, but my guess is they're probably pretty low cost. So you might be able to find something through them. Maybe your local rec center would have something that's cheap? I know where I used to live there was a rec center that was something like $12/year to use everything but the weights. It was a lot more expensive if you wanted weight access. I have no idea if they had any type of dancing or classes though since I didn't take advantage other than to play basketball there when it was bad weather. If you have a gaming system maybe DDR? I know a lot of people on this site have had success with that game.
Even if you have to stretch your budget out thin it might be worth it for an exercise you enjoy and can stick to.

Well I live in ireland so we dont have rec centers or anything like that, at least not where I live anyway!!And I checked meetup.com and the only things available within 25 miles of me is a law club and a neuro linguistics programming coaching lol think I'll give them a miss .gif) !!oow DDR sounds like a great idea, I didnt even think of that, I could get my friends around to do it 2 and it would seem even less like a chore !!I think I'll ask the boyfriend for that for valentines day haha he'll think im cracking up!!

But looking at pictures I see a huge change. So I'm not really sure, I don't see myself as fat as I used to. But I'm not to my goal yet either. I think I still have a way to go to think of myself the same way as I probably look to most people. I think it's just a slow thing.
Too bad meetup must not have made it out of the country well. It's an awesome site, I wonder if Ireland has something similar. I'm part of about 15 hiking groups and if I'm feeling social and don't feel like making calls to find someone to go I just go with a group and it's fun. Because there are usually more than 1 hike/day. If I had a game system I'd get DDR. It looks like a fun game even for someone like me who isn't a dancer or a gamer. Maybe one day I'll get a system, just always feel like it would be a waste of money.
