Not eating enough

I think i'm not eating enough again. Which is what actually caused my weight problem to begin with. For the last week my boyfriend and my daughter and I have been sick. So I've been trying to take care of them and me and still work. I've hardly eaten anything until today. And even now I'm having to force myself to eat because I'm not hungry. I hope whatever bug we have goes away soon. I'm not all that nice when I'm sick. Yesterday I had a slice of whole grain toast with i cant believe it's not butter and a special k cereal bar and about a cup of vanilla soy milk and water. i ate about the same the rest of the week. Not very much food at all. I gotta find a way to get my appetite back so I can keep losing weight

Re: Not eating enough

I've had loss of apetite before.. what helped for me was to see myself as sick. When you're sick, you don't want to eat, but you know you need thins to get better. Being very busy is not so much unlike being sick, anyway.

I start with eating little things, like crackers, as often as you feel you can handle. And then I increased what I ate till I was back at the amount I wanted to be eating.

Don't know whether that can help you, but it is what works for me.

Re: Not eating enough

i've had this problem for a while since i was pregnant with my daughter who is now 12 when i was pregnant i had to be rminded to eat which is weird for a pregnant woman. i am forcing myself to eat 3 meals a day plus a couple of light snacks between but i still dont feel like eating i have to make myself eat. Other than my asthma doc says i'm fine other than stress i dont know maybe it is a mental block

Re: Not eating enough

try making time to eat with people. that way it'll give you the opportunity to eat and something to look forward to. maybe that might just invoke a regular appetite.

i would love to do this and when i still had my job i ate lunch everyday at the same time with a good friend that i worked with. it was fun and i think was starting to help some because she knew about my appitite problem and would make sure i ate and ate healthy but now i'm not working she still does but it is like 30 min away and that is a long way to drive just for lunch and my mom lives an hour away, so during the day i'm home alone, atleast until my class starts, for breakfast and lunch and i usually end up skipping them. sometimes i sleep through breakfast because i was up so late the night before not able to fall asleep and then i'll get to cleaning or doing something and comepletely forget about lunch until almost 3 oclock when the kids get home by then it is to late for a meal so i force myself to eat a snack so i dont ruin dinner for myself completely..i was thinking of setting an alarm to go off everytime i should be eating to remind me to eat. I know skipping meals isnt condusive to losing weight but I dont think about eating when i dont feel hungry. weird i know but mom always said i was backwards

Re: Not eating enough

I was thinking the same thing, maybe you could set a timer or something. Another thing, and I know this takes time but you could prepare snacks or small meals in the evening for the next day. That way you know what you need to eat and make sure you eat it all. You might also try leaving notes for yourself all over the house. Visual cues are good for hunger, maybe you could cut out pictures of your favorite healthy foods and put them on the notes. Kind of cheesey but it might help...

Chris, you posted this in January. Whatever was going on, did you find that you lost weight? I've had many times when I had the flu, couldn't eat, and lost weight. Afterwards, ha, I'd be saying "Well at least I got some weight loss out of that awfulness." Was that your experience?

Question: You said, "I gotta find a way to get my appetite back so I can keep losing weight." Could you explain that please? I don't think I understand...

Re: Not eating enough

I've had a problem with not having an appetite since I was pregnant with my daughter almost 13 years ago...I forget to eat because I dont feel hungry. Because I dont eat regularly my metablism has slowed down. Some days I'm lucky if i eat 500 calories. I have to force myself to eat most days....I used to go 2-3 days without eating and not even realizing it until someone says something to me. I'm getting better about eating 3-4 meals a day with a snack or two thrown in. My boyfriend and kids hep me to remember to eat and if I've been home alone all day when they see me they will ask me if I have eaten yet that day. I've noticed that I am starting to get the hungry feeling again not every day but every few days I will realize that I'm feeling hungry or I will feel weak and shaky from what I'm guessing is low sugar so I will eat something. Since I've been eating more often, even when I dont feel hungry since everyone has been reminding me to eat, I have been losing. I've lost 32lbs so far!!!!! So thanks to my friends and family and especially kids and boyfriend I seem to have kick started my metabolism and my body seems to be starting to send my brain the signals it should have been sending all along.

Hopefully it's just because you're sick that you're not feeling like eating....
