Metamucil versus Fibrecon

Anyone tried the Berry flavor of Metamucil? How about the Fibrecon? I have been doing the Orange Metamucil, but my wife wants a little variety (she's like that ). So, I figure I find out from you guys.

Or, is there a pill version of the fiber that will take the taste away completely?

Just curious, as always...

"Pass"

For what it is worth........
I'm doing Atkins and also take 130mg of Oxycontin daily for my chronic joint arthritis pain.
Believe me, I know what constipation is.
I was talking to the Pharmacist the other day and had tried Senikot but the associated intestinal pains were incredible. Senikot is going to MAKE YOU GO no matter what is blocked up in front of it.
He suggested something called MiraLAX. You have to take it once a day for a week or so to get balanced out. It is completely neutral regarding flavor. I put it in iced tea and noticed no taste.
It will store about 1.5% to 2% water weight in your system to soften and relieve the constipation.
When I used it, I plateaued and even gained about 2# that week.
The move to regularity was great and the additional weight you see is only water in the system. But that is how it works.
I stopped taking it and the constipation returned as expected.
I stopped to see if the MiraLAX was causing the water retention and sure enough is was. The next week I dropped the 6# I was stalled with.
Again, if you don't mind the "temporary" plateau, it is great stuff.

Percocet has the same effect on me as well, I hate taking it after surgery.

Re: Metamucil versus Fibrecon

Most of the discount-store fibers have issues of one wort or another. Make a trip to the health-food store. My favorite is one called Yerba Prima. Powder or caps. Look for one with high SOLUBLE fiber too !! I like the powder in my morning shake.

Thanks for the advice. I should clarify that I was not looking at it to remove constipation.

The South Beach Diet mentioned that if you take some Metamucil 15 minutes before eating, you get a full feeling sooner, which reduces your need to eat. It just sticks to the spoon, the glass, and the throat if I don't drink it just after stirring. The stuff turns into jello sludge, not easy to drink. That was why I was shooting for the pill. All the benefit, without the mess.

Re: Metamucil versus Fibrecon

FIber comes in all different forms. The poweders work better than the caps because the caps will take some time to digest and expand, and usually you need to eat 3-6 caps to get an equivalent dose. Check the dosage.

Look for a fiber without guar gum if you don't like the sticky sludge, or just drink it right away. Why would you keep it around anyway?
