Jenny Craig Sued by Weight Watchers Seriously?
Jenny Craig is being sued by Weight Watchers because Weight Watchers claims Jenny Craig is lying about their weight loss plan being better than Weight Watcher's plans.
Jenny Craig allegedly is comparing scientific trials of both Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig that are 10 years apart in the commercial where Jenny Craig claims that their customers lost more than double the weight as those on Weight Watchers.
You may have seen the commercial, I think their newest spokeswoman Valerie Bertinelli (Kirstie Allen kept yo-yoing), is pretending to be a scientist in a lab coat.
Full details of the case can be researched using this info: Weight Watchers International Inc. v. Jenny Craig Inc, U.S. District Court, Southern District of New York, No. 10-00392.
Ugh. This cracks me up. I'd love to see both Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig in a true head to head study, but neither would do it, because the loser would stand to lose a truckload of money.

Personally I wouldn't use either plan. I don't think meal replacement is the key to long-term success and I also don't like faffing around with calculating points.
You're right that those two will never go head to head in a blind study, though!

Weight Watchers is not meal replacement. It's a program that teaches you portion control and how to cook for yourself using fresher ingredients and recipe alternatives to the high fat ones we are used to.
Jenny Craig is a meal replacement, you have to eat their foods. WW has been great for me. It really educated me on portion control, reading nutritional data, eating "this" instead of "that" and how to be overal healthy and making the right decisions.
I was on Jenny Craig once a long time ago. I lost some weight from the program but bottom line was that it got really expensive. When I was on it, it cost me about $90 wk as WW costs me $40 since i go to the meetings.

Basically I don't want to knock anything that works for people, but what Weight Watchers is peddling is available for free on the internet and any public library. I figured I could find it myself.

I could find it myself as well. However the face to face meetings is what is preferred to me. It's a boost of confidence that I get from it. Glad to see some can just stay on line and work it out on their own, wish I was one who could.

Different programs work better for different people. No need to have just 'one way' to go about it. As long as it gets you there - in a healthy way - it really shouldn't matter.

But I also don't like group support environments and to me that would have been the main advantage of WW or TOPS. No reason to join if you're not after group support and research nutrition and fitness info yourself.
Like I said, I'm not going to knock what works for some people. If it works for you, great, keep doing it. I just don't want people to think that their way is the only way. I don't think mine's the only way either. I hear people griping about the cost of the programs with WW and JC and I just want them to know that there are alternatives (that are free).

If you're spending twice the money I tend to think you'd have more motivation.
On the other side I bet neither have any weight loss associated with their plans over something like 5 years. I'd bet most people go for a couple months and then get back into their old habits. Of course that's true of any kind of weight loss.
