Rooney, Becks' persona required for anti-child-obesity drive in UK
London, Jan 27 (ANI): UK's celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, who rose to fame after getting 240 million pounds out of Tony Blair's kitty for better school dinners, has called upon football icons Wayne Rooney and David Beckham to help in his drive to tackle child obesity.
The superchef reportedly wants to get the Premiership stars to inspire kids to drag themselves away from computer games and into sport, because he says these stars had the convincing appeal for the school kids.
"These sportsman are massive icons to our young people. If someone of that calibre, who has the heart and souls of not only the kids but parents as well, gets involved with schools, the parents will listen to the kids and the government will listen to the parents. Then they will find new money and make new laws and start doing stuff really quick. I think it would have much more of an effect then school dinners. So much more. Who the bloody hell is Jamie Oliver compared to someone like Beckham or Rooney? If they have something important to say then they can really move mountains," The Mirror quoted Oliver as saying.
Judging by Jamie's track record if he gets his scheme underway, it's sure to take off, said the paper.
Jamie (31) say he has fatherly feelings for all the trainees that pass through his course. And, like any dad, he is hurt when some of his students drop out of the course and go back to their old ways.
"Luckily it doesn't happen very often. But, it does happen and I really don't like it - it is always highly depressing," Jamie explains. (ANI)
