Oppn seeks public input in childhood obesity battle
Western Australians are being asked to contribute ideas about how to tackle childhood obesity.
A discussion paper prepared by the WA Liberal Party is being released today about the issue.
The Opposition's children spokeswoman Barbara Scott says in the past 20 years the number of children who are overweight has tripled.
She says more needs to be done to prevent obesity and the community should be involved.
"We see the increase of cardiovascular disease in children and the onset of adult diabetes, this is a health and well being crisis for Western Australian children," she said.
"We need to tackle it and we need to tackle it urgenty."
Ms Scott says the party is calling for public comment.
"We need to look at physical excerise and diet and there are several issues that are raised in the discussion paper that have been put out there to say 'What do you think?'."
