Question Newbie here for advice

Hi everyone,

my daughter is 10 years old and currently weights 10st6lbs or 146lbs. She has gained at least a stone since October last year as she has recently been diagnosed with IBS.

She has always been big (9lbs when she was born) and she is a big build (by that I mean wide), we have always know she was slightly overweight, but even doctors on regular visits had said its puppy fat and she'll lose it.

As from Sunday, we have cut back on her snacking and portion sizes and she has lost 3lbs in 6 days. Does anyone think this is too much in one go?

She has been scared into losing weight as her doctor said she needed to lose weight and now she is scared she will die.

The change of diet has also helped her IBS symptoms and she is happy that the weight is going down.

Does anyone know what a 10 year old at 4ft 11 or 1.48 m tall should weigh - I cant get any answer out of my GP and am stuck as to what is normal?

Any help would be appreciated.

Re: Newbie here for advice

I think that's OK at first....a lot of weight that is first lost can be water weight. There's also variability from day to day as well. I wouldn't want to see her lose more than 3lbs a week....I recommend no more than 2lbs per week, but it also depends on how it's accomplished. I'm OK with 3lbs per week with a combination of healthier eating and exercise, and 2lbs per week with just healthier eating. I would say at her height probably around 95-100lbs give or take 10 pounds in either direction seems like a good weight depending on body build, etc.

Both my 10 year old daughter and 12 year old son are between 4'9" and 4'11" and both weigh around 85lbs.
I would highly suggest you start logging her food and you'll probably find she's probably 50 to 60% carbohydrate, 30 to 40% fat and less than 20% protein. She should be around 40% protein/40% carb/20% fat.
calorie-count.com or fitday.com either one offer great food logging capabilities.
Log for a week everything she eats and then paste the nutrition information in here.
