Re: "Moms, dads don't always know best." Nov. 26.
As a teacher, I happened to read this article while taking a break (on Sunday afternoon) from writing 28 anecdotal report cards.
Vivian Smith contends that childhood obesity is the responsibility of doctors and teachers. She urges parents to e-mail the education minister and have her add even more to our extensive curriculum. She also feels that doctors should dummy down their language, so that the supposedly inadequately educated masses can understand, and start lecturing them on how to take care of their children properly.
Quit playing the blame game and give us all a break. Doctors, teachers and indeed anyone in today's workforce are stretched to the limit, as are parents as a part of that group.
Herein lies the crux of the problem. Most parents know what is in the best interest of their children but often it's easier to let the kids play video games or watch TV while they whip up something for supper at the end of a hectic day.
As the saying goes, "it takes a village to raise a child." It's in the best interest of all of us to contribute to raising well- adjusted, healthy children. We're all caught up in this fast-paced society. Better we work together and respect one another's efforts rather than point fingers.
