Habits are hard to break, so you need to keep in mind that it may take time and patience to change your child's unhealthy food habits. Setting family and individual goals and changes in small, doable steps may be the solution.
If your child has a weight problem, eliminate junk food around the house and opt for snacks of fruits and vegetables. Encouraging your child to exercise with a game of basketball instead of watching television will help as well.
If you're leading a healthy lifestyle, your child will most likely follow in your footsteps. So eat healthy, control your portions, limit your treats and be physically active.
When your child does show improvement, acknowledge his or her accomplishments. Praise your child or take him or her on a fun family outing for a day, such as swimming. Keep in mind that you should never use food as a reward.
