Childhood Obesity Causes Ear Infections
Boston (eCanadaNow) - New research has shown a very strong link between childhood obesity and the buildup of fluid in the middle ear which leads to ear infections.
This is according to research done by scientists in South Korea who found that the middle ear is inflamed when fluid builds up in it with weight being a majo factor.
This is one of the first studies looking at a link between childhood obesity and ear infections as Dr. Jong Bin Kim stated that “In comparing children with and without otitis media with effusion, we found that childhood obesity was significantly higher in children with otitis media with effusion.”
Researchers have made the link but still do not know why one leads to another. it could simply be that obese children are not as healthy with higher cholesterol levels as well as a much higher BMI level. More research will be done to try and find a more direct link with reasons for the infection.
