You know what I hate?

Ok, so I know I'm new and that I'm not much in the position to whine, but I need to let this out. Everytime I mentioned this, people told me to "not point a sausage-like finger at others and go run a few miles."

First, I don't have "sausage-like fingers", and second, I already run a few miles everyday.

Not to my point. Has everyone ever watched a Disney film? Has anyone noticed how it's the beautiful princess who ends up with the prince, and the evil one is always obese? (Madam Mims, Ursula, etc)

What I mean is that they (the media, big entertainment companies, advertising, you name it) say that if you're thin, you're AUTOMATICALLY beautiful, smart, good-hearted, when you sing little animals from the woods come to you and prince charming will want to marry you the moment he lays eyes on you.
On the other hand, if you're fat, you're evil, dumb, you're a sociopat and you despise all forms of beauty.
And people live along these rules, nowadays. At highschool, I was practically told that I wasn't even human. People others considered kind-hearted did cruel things to me. If you think I'm exagerating, this guy I had a crush on and that everyone said he was an angel on earth once locked himself in a bathroom with me, pretending to like me, but it happened to be a prank that he bragged about to 4 schools. And people actually found him "cooler". Why? Because I wasn't human enouth, I didn't count. It was funny to laught at the freak.
But I don't want to complain about that either.

I don't watch tv anymore, just to avoid commercials and looking at actresses and singers. They tell you ALL THE TIME that you must be like them. Hell they have personal trainers, or if they're in commercials, they're most likely pro-ana models.
Because of tv, people think fat people are mean. In fact, we had a commercial here in portugal advertising a soft drink. It had fat people yelling "save the whales!" then the image fades to the picture of a beautiful, impossibly thin woman and the text "don't be like them, drink <insert brand here>". How more aggressive can you get? How are fat people supposeed to FEEL? (Yes, surprise, we feel)
That was basically saying that fat people enjoy being fat, and that they do silly manifestations about saving obesity. I'd give an ARM to be thin! I'd give anything I possess! ANYTHING! Can't people understand how some of us are so desperate? To the point of slashing their wrists in hope of losing some calories through bloodloss?

Which brings me to yet another point. Pro ana.
They say we are "liek, omg, soooo grossss, i'd kill myself if i were liek that. i just ate 24 kcal, i feel soooooo grossss now ;("
I hate them, yet I'd do anything to look like them. Go figure.
People think very high of anorexic patients, they feel sorry for them, or admire them, and say they are really brave. Men say they're "so hot."
Now obese patients, people look upon us like filth. No, less than that. They wouldn't spit on us because it would be too much to waste saliva on us.

I'm sick of people not listening to what I have to say because of me being fat, and idolizing thin women who have NOTHING on their heads appart from bleached hair. I'm sick and tired of people ridicularizing MY valid opinions, and crediting THEM even if they can't string two words together in their own native language.

People, we are as valid or more than those models. We hurt, just like they would if you treated them like you treat us. We want not only acceptance and lack of humiliation, we want love. I don't mean pity, I mean as much love as you'd give a thin woman. Kudos.

Not necessarily ALWAYS! What about Shrek? The love interests were ogres and the evil people were thin and beatuiful? In most films I can think of the evil person was thin. Wicked Witches in Wizard of Oz, Cruella Deville from Beauty 101 dalmations, Evil Queen from Snow White, evil step sisters and step mother in Cinderella were thin, etc. In Beauty and the Beast, the romance interest for beauty was a beast, which did try to show that true beauty is on the inside. But overall I agree, most main characters are thin in nature.

By no means is this an excuse for most of the main characters being trim, but back when a lot of these movies were made, 40, 50, 60 even 70 years ago, the majority of the population was thin and maybe they felt the characters they made represented the population overall?

I don't know anyone here in the US that thinks anorexic is beautiful, in fact quite the opposite. Most people would rather see someone with a few extra pounds than be a skeleton. I think people feel bad for anorexics because of their mindset, how they are so desperate to be thin that they'll practically kill themselves for it.

You are dead on about TV, the people we see on the tube do not represent the mix of society, and that is one of my pet peaves.

I also hate how people can become rich and famous singers, but they can't sing worth a crap, they just are good looking in people's eyes, and that's why they're famous singers.

Jennifer Lopez, Britney Spears, Fergie, Janet Jackson, Madonna just to name a few.

I'm going to move this to the blog section, as I think you'll get more repsonses in there.

Great post!

Thank you, man

Oh it's not just the media.
I can quote a thread on 4chan, the largest imageboard online, on the "sexy beautiful women" board (google 4chan, you'll find it straight away)
I actually saved the thing, so I'm going to quote replies as-is.

"Real, curvy women please. I know the vast majority of "men" on here are gay pedophiles that like "women" that have curves like a 12 year old boy, but this topic is for REAL MEN"

So far so good, some guy requested pictures of non-anorexic women. He didn't say fat either, just curvy. Let's see the replies he got, shall we?

"well, your real manly self can gtfo."

"GTFO chubby chaser"

"In this case the OP really means his idea of REAL MEN are the fat losers that chase OBESE WOMEN.
This forum is devoted to beauty, NOT to BBW's PLUMPERS, or FAT HOGS."

"FAT CHICKS DIE YOUNG....but no one misses them."

"Or the ugly f*** with tiny d*** who have to settle for whales as wives to get any..."

"I'm an old fart who has had an extensive and delightful sex life. I was never fat nor am I fat now.
NEVER....EVER did I lower myself to screwing a SMELL "

"Ever see a good looking fit guy with a fat girl?
Of course not. Only the desperate and the losers chase the OBESE."

"You can be BANNED for posting fatties in /s/."

"Fat people shouldn't be having sex at all, it's bad for the genepool, and just plain bad for aesthetics."

"Fat people make me want to barf. I'd never hire one....they are lazy.
I don't like them near me....they smell.
Do us all a favor FAT PEOPLE, get your tubes tied or get a vasectomy. Our species needs people with character and discipline. You FAIL at both."

"Fat people are often funny people, because if they want any friends at all, or god forbid a girlfriend(the thought disgusts me too), that's all they have to go on."

"Losers will do anything for approval.
Well...ALMOST ANYTHING.
Try putting down the FUCKING FORK FATASS!"

"that's called "hoggin". I really think a guy who fucks a fatty is as bad as the fatty."

"Chastity is far superior to Fattyf*****"

"Pic is from Yanna series, "Stunts in Bed". A fat girl's bed stunts consist of breathing and sweating."

"IMO if you lower yourself to sleeping with an undisciplined smelly fat broad you're either stupid & desperate or without any standards."

I found that last night. I can say I felt so insulted I could cry. However it proves my point, that is how population in western countries in general think.

I don't, anymore.
But what it made me realise, is that people do mind wether if we are fat are not. Quite a lot, actually. Now I know what everyone thinks about us. When friends are introducing me to to other people, I know they are thinking I am disgusting.
Alright, I am whining too much now =p

I just don't want any more discrimination. I'm so tired of starving myself, taking laxatives that give excruciating pain for a few hours before working, crying after eating, spending all my money on xenical pills, running miles at a time, sweating like a pig with my flesh wobbling around as I run and pleople staring at me.
People don't understand some of us are desperate. It's not lack of discipline, at least not now in my case (used to be when I was a child)

I want a social revolution XD

Laxatives, pills, starving, etc are definitely not the answer if you are looking to lose weight and keep it off. (that's where we come in )

Something to consider, it's not just being overweight that brings negative attention from some people, it's being anything different that society perceives as not the norm.

If you're in a wheelchair, people stare. If you wear a turbin in the United States, people stare. If you're African-American and live in a small rural town, people stare.....and not only do these people stare, they may make comments, slurs, or even give them a hard time.

I completely agree with what you've said, but I think it's one of the big flaws of society, how judgmental people are of those who aren't like them.

Re: You know what I hate?

There's a ton of generalisms on your and the other parties part.

Here's my little view:
I coach Jr. High Wrestling, I started coaching as an obese man and quickly figured out that I couldn't do a good job at that weight for the kids. I was also leading by example with bad nutrition, bad habits and would die a pre-mature death. I changed my lifestyle and my families to make sure that we're healthy and learn to eat correctly. I have them evaluate what they're eating and what's missing from their diet (always protein) at most meals. Luckily my 2 younger children are pre-disposed to being athletic and thin, my oldest will have to fight obesity his whole life and I've warned him of this as we go on. The kids I coach that are obese have parents that are obese (generalism), when told that the kids have to go home and exercise some laugh at me. 2 hours a week is not enough time to make their kids into conditioned studs but that's the parents expectations. These kids cry when they run, cry when they do pushups and cry when pushed hard to wrestle multiple matches. Most drop out over the course of the season as their parents think it's too much work to bring them to practice. These thought processes and bad habits are being passed from generation to generation now as it's much easier to not learn how to cook but to just buy pre-made food from fast food joints or frozen food. These pre-made meals are terrible in all nutrition (even the salads) and don't offer nearly enough protein for a growing body to build muscle when they do start learning to exercise.
I could have begun to generalize that fat people are stupid and lazy due to what I've seen, however as a fat person I know I am neither. People make snap judgements based on bad assumptions due to a generic set of circumstances, that's all I know. Calling all skinny people good or bad or all fat people unhealthy is a bad generalism that is all.

What would the outcome of such revolution entail? That it's OK for people to be obese, unhealthy and pass these traits on to their kids?

We all know how we got to where we are (generalism):
We ate too much and sat around too much, we drink unnatural drinks and unnatural foods and binge on sweets and fatty foods to no end.
People complain that eating a healthy diet is boring, let me tell you living 300+ years ago and eating their diet would bore you to DEATH.

Here's a goal for you, eat 2000 calories of chicken breasts and long grain brown rice over the course of the day. I GUARANTEE you will be full beyond your wildest dreams!!!

That is one of my concerns about "acceptance" of obesity. Obesity isn't just a beauty issue, but to me, it's most importantly a health issue. I am terrified that society might become too complacent in that regard, causing a spike in the obesity epidemic, which will have very negative health consequences.

Re: You know what I hate?

I know this is an older post but I wanted to add I really do think it's disgusting to have the bad fat one and skinny damsel in distress. However, It will never change.

I've been on sites where people post random secrets, and some just make me bawl...some to the nature of that obese people shouldn't be allowed to live, and that obese people do not have souls. Simply disgusting.

I really did love that Dove true beauty ads they were doing a while back. Those were all very lovely women and not one of them was a stick. However, I do have a very very tiny friend and she actually has to drink ensure to maintain her weight. She has a lot of health issues thats why she is so thin, and gets really upset when people come up to her and tell her to eat something. So I guess its both ways.

I just try to ignore it as much as possible.

It's a lot more rampant than I ever realized, almost reminiscent of racism in the US in the early 1900s.

Dont you just love the line...Why can't you just lose the weight...stop eating till you meet your goal weight. Yea...that route is totally healthy. (Sarcasm Alert)

Yeah, I learned my lesson two days ago with laxatives, with an emergency trip to the hospital with a hole in my intestines XD

I'm just so desperate -_-;;
