| Weight Loss Journal Well, I am now over a month in. I have not posted anything since I registered but have been reading these blogs pretty frequently. I find that getting online to read these has been a nice distraction when I am craving snacks in the evening.
I didn't weigh myself even once during the first month. This was hard to do but boy, it was worth it! I stepped on the scale on 11/15, one month after I started, and had lost 22 lbs! What a great motivator that has been. I have set my next weigh-in at 2 weeks with a modest goal of 4 lbs during that time. Thanksgiving is going to make that tough as is having several days off work. We'll see.
I am able to remain very focused during the week but the weekends are much tougher. Being at home, it is so much easier to graze and overeat. I am a little worried about not working for 6 days and traveling to out-of-town family where I will have less control over what there is to eat. Just want to stay on track now as I have continual fear of "falling off the wagon".
My first goal since the beginning of this was to drop 30 lbs. That will feel great and not too far away. I'm hoping to be there during this next month. I also need to add in the exercise part. I started wearing a pedometer this week and am finding that during my workday I am walking between 6000 and 8500 steps/day. I am going to start focusing on getting this up to 10,000. I need to start using the damn treadmill but I work 70-80 hours a week so this has not been easy to fit in. I'll have to figure that one out.
Anyways, there's a little update. I'm enjoying reading everyone's blogs and will try to post on here somewhat regularly. Thanks to everyone for sharing their stories.

Hey OD, I've seen you post protein recommendations on other forums. Should I be supplementing with protein shakes? I am worried about adding a lot of calories with these. What are you thoughts on this?

What are you thoughts on this? | They're not as high calorie as you think. There are a ton of protein shakes out there that have only 110-120 calories per serving if you mix it with water. They tend to be the low carb/low fat ones. Mix in skim milk and you're at about 200 calories per serving.
Some of the ones OD has recommended are Nitrean and Isopure low-carb or zero-carb protein shakes. ON Protein is low calorie too but I don't think tastes as good. I think Nitrean you have to buy on the internet and Isopure and ON you can get on the web or in health food stores I believe. Hope this helps.

| Re: Weight Loss Journal Well, Thanksgiving is truly the most evil holiday for anyone trying to lose weight. Being out of town for 6 days was tough for me. I started off OK but by the end of the week had slipped back into some very bad habits. DAMNIT!
Jumped back on board with the program today and things went smoothly at least. I'm hoping things will continue to go well. I plan to weigh myself next on 12/15. This will mark the 2 month date since I started this whole thing. Should be very exciting.
I still haven't added any protein supplementation. I need to look at it more seriously. Does beer count? That would be great! Tis the season for winter warmers and Christmas ales. I will be mostly holding back this time around. Mostly being the operative word here.
I hope you all had a more willful Thanksgiving than I did! Cheers!

| Re: Weight Loss Journal Well, I'm settling in to what will probably be my weight loss rate. I have lost 7 more lbs since 11/15. I am looking to lose between 8-10 lbs per month. This seems to be doable but some days just feels like a slog. Sometimes I feel great about how things are going and other days I see myself in the mirror and can't believe I don't see more results after 2 months and almost 30 lbs. Just goes to show how much I really do need to lose.
I continue to struggle mainly on the weekends. I have the weekdays pretty well figured out at this point and am able to avoid most tempations. I have my eating routine down. I also notice that I simply am not as hungry as I used to be. This has also made it easier. Unfortunately I'm still not doing enough about the exercise part.
As much as I love this time of year, it will probably be easier once the holidays are over. Too much food around both at work and at home. Trying to avoid it all the time is tough! Well, I guess I just need to continue the work and figure out some way to increase my activity level. I hope everyone is meeting their goals.

| Re: Weight Loss Journal 7lbs in a month is great! The holidays are tough for everyone that's for sure. As you go on it'll be easier not to have those bad days. You may not see the results but I bet others do. You look at yourself every day. I bet someone who hasn't seen you in 2 months would notice for sure. I bet your belt notices too.

| Re: Weight Loss Journal After what turned out to be a horrific absolute orgy of eating over the holidays I am back on track as of 1/1/08. It took me about 3 weeks to lose this last 2 pounds. My motivation has actually been quite good forthe last 2 weeks and I'm hoping to continue that success. Generally, things seem to be getting easier with the cravings and the eating. I'm really starting to notice that my clothes are fitting better and people are actually starting to make comments. These are nice boosts to the psyche! I have a few things in the closet that fit again and some more waiting in the wings (not quite there yet). Almost 3 months into this and I feel like I might finally be hitting a rhythm. Watching the weight come off is very very nice and I feel better.
I still need to work on my weekends but it is getting better with time. I basically eat the same things each week on the workdays and while it is a bit boring, I'm used to it and actually am starting to really hate breaking my routines when lunch is brought in. Our company brought in pizza on friday which is usually my small pasta bowl day. I decided on 1 slice of pizza and salad rather than my old routine of 4 slices and some salad. Even after 1 I was wishing I hadn't had it. Mentality is changing, slowly but surely. Otherwise, work is still a killer but it's not keeping me from this goal! I hope everyone is having success in the new year.

I'm happy to hear you are back on track now!! That routine isn't such a bad thing as you said because it will help you stay focused, and not want to break it. This new mentality you have is EXACTLY how you want to be thinking and feeling!! I can sense that you are definitely on your way to success!
