Oh boy, well I haven't posted here in awhile but I thought I'd update! A new blog thread to start a new year, eh?
I've given myself a challenge. It is to walk/jog/run 300 miles over the span of 60 days. I'm on day 3 right now, and at about 19.5 miles. If I do 6 miles a day that gives me leeway to take a rest day each week if I need it due to energy/time restraints. It's pretty fun so far. Right now I'm just walking pretty leisurely because anything more causes my bronchitis to flare up. I'd like to start jogging in increments again once I can have my health back.
I'm not sure what my weigh in is. I will start my weigh in day again on Mondays and though I know I've gained back some of what I lost before, I don't think it will be too bad at all. Family drama supreme business kept me away from my goals during the holidays... and then around New Years I got sick with flu/bronchitis/pneumonia/what-have-you that kept me down and out for the past two months. I could barely move. It stunk. SO, I'm just getting back into the swing of things now.
Oh, I have a new goal. I graduate next December, so about 1 year from now I'm quitting my job and setting out to thru-hike the Appalachian Trail. Aaaalll 2,000+ miles of it. I've wanted to do this for some years, but it's never really seemed reality. I would be glad to lose most of the weight I want before then though so that I'm in better condition to begin with, though I imagine the hike would be a conditioning experience in itself.
Well! I'm excited to check out and see how everyone is doing now! Haven't talked to ya all in a couple months!
"The soul of a journey is liberty, perfect liberty, to think, feel, do just as one pleases." - William Hazlitt

Ahh the appalachian mountain range made up of 13 provinces no less, one of which a famous comedy duo sung about. Anyone know who and what? Oh, nearly forgot, good luck with the walking, running, jogging and getting fit Dancer. Dave

Thanks for the welcome back everyone! It's good to meet you all!
Haha... I have never heard of this song before, but now I wish I had!!
Being on spring break is great. Albeit, it doesn't really feel like spring. I went for a 8.5 mile walk today! The blizzard was grand; so grand that half of my walk was through drifts on the road, but at least there are fewer drivers out on days like this! So I'm on day 4 out of 60 now, and at 28 miles. I think the 150 miles/month will be pretty much a piece of cake as long as school doesn't get stressful and I have the time for it. I'd also like to add other workouts too.
I'm tuckered out though, but I'm slowly building up tolerance to it! I'd like to do a real hike in the woods sometime this week, but I don't have snow shoes so I'll see. I don't have any papers to write, and I really don't even need to study, so I have lots of free time this week... Soooo fun.
March 1 is tomorrow, that's right! I want to leave for my thru-hike on March 1st actually, so 1 year from tomorrow! Let's see if I can get prepared now!
I'm exhausted. Gonna start counting calories again tomorrow and see where I'm at.

I don't know... I'm 22 and my grandpa calls me a whippersnapper so I probably am one. But I looked them up just now, and it is quite a funny song. Actually, they have amazing voices to go from that deep bass to the high falsetto! Funny!
Hmm... actually the Blue Ridge mountains are the part of the AT which I HAVE done some hiking, a few years ago... that's what got the bug in me to do more.

Sorry Dancer i appear to have gone off on a tangent with this. I am british tho and we are ruled by a monarchy, therefore we think differently. Dave.

Hahaha! Why would a song by silly American comedians reach top charts in the UK? That sounds crazy. You must have bad music over there or something. Monarchy messes with things. I'm glad I've now experienced the magic of Laurel and Hardy though. Something I couldn't live without I'm sure.
Speaking of the UK, have you ever been to the Rock of Gibraltar? I'm fascinated by pictures of that place and want to go someday.

I hav`nt been to the rock dancer but i have friends who have and they love it, but apparently they have some very cheeky monkeys who roam free and steal food and cameras and stuff from tourists lol, one said, its funny at first watching the tourists getting hijacked by monkey`s until it happened to me lol. And yes Dancer our charts were very ill in the 70`s and 80`s as you have noticed. And dont forget Dancer, Laurel and Hardy are a USA creation not British but were massive all over for their slapstick comedy films, you must watch one if you can, it will be in monochrome(black and white) but worth it! Blah... okay today was the official weigh in day, and I was pretty close to my guess. I thought I'd be at 203 or so but I'm at 205! Not bad, after about 2 months of being bedridden, and a month of Holidays. That means I'm up about 10 pounds since I fell off track in November. Oh well, here's hoping to doing better now. With spring coming up in a few months perhaps it won't be so daunting. Not to mention I definitely have more time now with only part time studies. Okay, adjusted the stats.
I plan on walking to work today! It's about 4 miles there and back so that's only half of what I walked yesterday. I think before work I might go to the gym. I'm afraid to jog outside in the winter, but the gym should be safe and non slip. The pool is also open til 2pm, so perhaps that would be fun!
I'm also going shopping this morning to get some food. I actually had a whole strew of events with my sickness, and my car breaking down twice in the past month, which led me to the point where I still won't be able to pay my February rent until this Friday's paycheck, and so I'll be late for March as well. I hate being late. BUT, that also contributed because all the food I've been able to buy these past couple months has been things like potatoes and ramen. But my friend, who recently graduated and got a job, found out about this and then sent me a gift card specifically for buying food. Pretty thankful and excited for this! To the store!

I just love hiking and it's a bit depressing to have the time, and the nice weather, but the pain in my leg. Right now if I hiked with a 30lb pack that would be 135lbs of stress on my legs. If I lose the 65lb I want to, then I could hike with my 30lb pack and it would only be 170lb of stress on the legs. I wonder if perhaps my shin splints wouldn't happen as often or sporadically as they do.
Oh well... new day, new day!
What to do! I think it would be safe to go for a bike ride since it's sunny and the ice has dried off the road. However it might be really cold... Put on the rain gear to block the wind and splashing and it might be good.

Well I went for just a 3 mile bike ride yesterday. I chose that loop because I figured if my leg started hurting again I could stop after 3 miles, and if not I would continue around a second time. Glad I took the short loop though because after about mile 2 I started to feel the pain, and by the time I made it that short mile back to my house my leg was again throbbing. Sad! Someone had told me that bicycling would use different muscles than simply walking or running and that it was a good alternative. However, I guess I did not take into account the steep roads and hills in the city, and the fact that half of my bike ride I would be standing and pedaling because it's just impossible to get that much force to go uphill while sitting.
So today was torture because it was so nice outside. Perfect weather for biking or hiking or just walking, and my leg was feeling pretty good... but I didn't do anything, thinking that it would start hurting again like yesterday. There is a slight pain in it only right now. I'm hoping that laying off all day today will make it better for tomorrow so that I can go for a hike up Hogback mountain, but I think if I feel any pain at all I will not do it, because it will be torture for the entire hike and will not help me heal. I've been told it can take up to 10 days or even a month to get over this shin issue, and I'm praying that it doesn't.
When I am healthy I simply love exercising and doing things outdoors. I was sick, so I didn't have a chance to do that for a couple months and it is making me so sad that now my leg is injured, and I don't know how long it will be before it's better. I know there are exercises to do for just upper body and whatnot, but honestly exercising is SO boring to me. The one indoor thing I can do and not bore myself is dance, but that is also off limits for the time being.
I'm having a hard time getting back on the bandwagon for eating. Exercising is a joy and no trouble, but my problem is the eating. I know it's easier once I get used to it again, but with no class this week and being stuck indoors the past couple days it's so hard to stay away from the food. This weekend is going to be hard because I'm volunteering up at my camp, which always serves the greatest food, and I'm really going to have to portion myself. There are also going to be sweets and juice out all weekend. I'm going to make a statement that I will JUST drink water and avoid the sweets, and try to take big helpings of vegetables and tiny helpings of all the good stuff they're going to make like lasagna and spaghetti and Finnish pancakes. Gotta get used to it, because they're going to be serving good stuff like that all summer and I'm gonna be working there for a few months then! However, I always manage to loose weight in the summertime anyway even when I'm not trying, just because you're simply running around and chasing kids all day anyway.

Nice goal, Dancer. Sounds wonderful. Funny you should mention. Here I get the Texas Parks and Wildlife magazine and this month they feature park walks. Not 2000 miles of trail but it certainly interested me.
We will be going w/my parents fishing in East TX this June and since there is not a whole lot of "other" activities, I plan for us to go to the state park nearby and go hiking on their trails. Just for something different. It's beautiful out there.
Have fun at camp!

Thanks, Fluffy! Hiking on any trails is my favorite thing to do! Oh the weather has been beautiful and in the 50s. Hopefully you have some nice parks around you to wander?
So this weekend at camp was a blaaaaast... I was the director for the girls end of things. I was running back and forth all weekend and carrying kids and whatnot, so even though I did have some desserts that I had hoped not to, I am down to 201 this morning, which is a happy thought.
4 pounds seems a lot for a week, but eh, I'll take it!
