Talking Shedding Some Pounds

Hey all:

This is my first post. I'm an up-n-down weight loser-gainer. Using the internet for the first time in my quest to keep it off this time. I appreciate any words of encouragement to keep me on track.

I'm thinking of just going back to basics this time, and doing the old tried and true Calorie Counting. So far I've found the following sites to be the most helpful...

calorie-count.com (for it's large database)
calitrak.com (small upstart, but very easy to use Calorie Diary)
lowcaldiner.com (cheeseball looking, but good recipes)

Does anybody know a better way than calorie counting? Last time I tried that Atkins craze, but quickly gained everything I lost back, and then some. I'm open to suggestions. But right now I'm thinking the only way is the simple old-school way... counting cals.

Thanks for your support and love. :0)

I honestly think that calorie counting is the best way to go. It's so easy to lose track of what you are eating. Then again, if you preplan your meals (setup your own meals/snacks ahead of time), you don't have to keep count throughout the day.

There are some tried and true methods for weight loss that can help you if you don't count calories such as:

1. Eating slower. People eat too fast and your brain doesn't tell your body you are full until long after you really are full
2. Drinking a ton of water
3. Cutting out sweets/junk food
4. Exercise
5. Putting motivating pictures or items near the fridge that you see whenever you're going to the fridge to grab that extra snack you really don't need
6. Having a partner to workout with or to lose weight with you through healthier eating (being competitive)

......you get the idea

Counting calories is the best way, period. I agree with William but would add one more tip which would be to shoot for 8 hrs of sleep a day.

Re: Shedding Some Pounds

Thanks to both of you. I kind of thought counting calories was the way to go this time. I like the suggestion to get 8 hours sleep and preplan meals, that way I don't have to always go throughout the day adding stuff up on my mind.
