| Noven's Blog I guess I will track my progress here. After work Im gonna hit the gym with the cool routine that my trainer laid out for me yesterday. Im not quite sure what exercises Im doing, but its on my cool card with the machine number on it so I can goto it easily. While at work (now) I had a salad but the dressing was pretty loaded. When I get home Ill probably grab a slim fast for breakfast since after I work out, Ill probably go grocery shopping then off to bed. I plan on doing atleast 30mins on the bike at the gym along with all the weight machine thingys I got on my card. I figured out my BMR using the cool formula on a different topic and got this: 66+1497.6259257+914.5-156.4=2321.7259257*1.55=3598.675184835. Im not quite sure what that means and all, but I guess Ill just keep around 1700 calories a day I figure.

It's one area people tend to underestimate their calorie intake.
As far as the formula you calculated, the point of the calculation is to tell you that based on your current age/weight/height and activity, how many calories a day you would have to eat to maintain your current weight.
So if you ate 3598 calories a day exercising as much as you do, then you'd stay at your current weight.
The idea is to use that number to figure out how many calories you should eat a day on average in order to achieve your weight loss goals.
For example, lets say that you wanted to lose 2lbs of fat a week. One pound of fat is equal to 3500 calories. Two pounds of fat would therefore be equal to 7000 calories. So if you ate 7000 calories less per week than your body needs to maintain (called a calorie deficit), then you will lose 2lbs a week.
Since there are 7 days a week, you can split that 7000 calorie deficit you need to create to lose 2lbs of fat into a 1000 calorie a day deficit.
Since your body's maintenance level is 3598 calories a day, if you reduced that by 1000 calories a day to 2598 calories, you should achieve your 2lb per week fat loss goal. At 1700 calories a day you will lose about 3.5-4lbs of fat a week.
Hope I didn't confuse you too bad.

Dieting is a bad word . I really dont like standing in the grocery store doing math and stuff when I can just look at it really quick and decide if it is better for me. Like should I get this item when a low-cal/low-fat version is RIGHT next to it.

| Re: Noven's Blog Just got back from the gym and had my breakfast. I went to the gym really really early this morning since I couldnt sleep and I have today off. My breakfast consisted of a Lite Blueberry Yogert, my multi-viatamin and lots of water . While eating my yogert, I looked on the back and saw it had 100 calories...so with that 1 yogert, I took 1/17th of my calorie intake for the day :eek4:.

I think he may have been referring to not so much counting the calories/fat/protein/carbs at the store when you shop, but to count them at home as you eat so you can track what you put in your body each day. Quote:
