| Not giving up!!!!
I figured I'd do a blog so I can keep track of my progress and a place to come to when having good days or tough days.
Well thanks to OD for my title- I was a little frustrated yesterday with the scale but I can't see me throwing in the towel.....because I'm really not happy with my weight and if I give up I'll just have to start again (again), so nope I'm not giving up.
I'm feeling good today even though the scale was at the same place (I'm one who weighs each day but I'm going to be patient with the scale). I figured I'd look for other signs of improvement and that I'm on the right track.
An exciting one today was- I was on the treamill and my workout pants (stretchy ones) kept falling down (I work out at home). At first I didn't pay attention but it kept happening and was becoming amusing.... I kept thinking wow I remember when these were really tight and no chance of them falling down , how cool is this- LOL I was actually proud my pants were falling down! Then it became distracting because it was happening alot. So I hopped off the treadmill and just took them off and was exercising in my t-shirt. It was so motivating I put extra in my workout today. I ended up doing an extra mile on TM and added 1 more push up to each of my 5 sets (so 5 more pushups). What a great feeling!
Other little subtle changes- my face is looking thinner (well my chins specifically), when I do my leg stretches I notice I'm able to open my legs wider and reach my hands/arms further down to my toes (before I could only reach to my knee without feeling like I was going to rip or hurt myself). And the biggest change- I'm not bloated all the time as I was when I didn't exercise or eat balanced. That feeling went away week one and I really didn't pay attention to it when it wasn't there anymore. But I'm thrilled not to have that horrible bloated uncomfortable feeling that was with me on most days.
So I will focus more on other changes and just not the scale.

((Thanks Fluffymomma))
Well I'm thrilled the scale started moving again and been the same weight for 2 days (183)*YAY*, down another pound (I'll take it, thank you). I resolved to being patient and figured when my body is ready it will drop......but it is nice to see it again. My husband is at a stall as well.....kinda funny we both stalled same time. I told him not to worry about it.....we are in for the long haul and we will wait another week then re-evaluate. But I can see a difference in his body, it is tightening up.
I noticed I wasn't drinking as much water as I was before, some days it is really hard.....not because I don't like water because that is my first drink of choice. Moreso just wasn't thirsty seems winter is hard to remember to drink your water like in the warmer months, so I focused this week on upping my water and making sure I hit my daily amount. I've also upped my intensity of my workouts........trying to give more and focusing on what I'm doing (not just getting through it as fast and as easy as I can).
I'm definitely noticing my arms have more strength and it's so exciting.......my arms for the past 10 years have been like wimpy marshmellows, just absolutely no strength at all. So it is very nice to feel the changes.
I hate going to the gym (never liked it, and even if I was super thin I don't believe I'd ever feel comfortable at the gym) so I do all my workouts at home. I do have plenty of items to keep me moving in the right direction but really looking forward to the spring to be able to get out and enjoy some outside activities. I'm looking forward to gardening (even though I suck....I'm excited to try and grow some tomatoes and other veggies and herbs), also kayaking (I didn't go once last year, our kayaks sat still the whole year....and I live right close to a beautiful lake) as well as hiking....I live in a wonderful state full of great trails but had no motivation. So I'm really looking forward to getting out and doing some of those things in the better weather. For now I'll keep doing what I'm doing because it's working.
On a side note... I received a jump rope with weighted handles for Christmas. I tried it out the other day......what a train wreck. Now I remember doing it as a kid and thought I was quite good. Thought to myself ....Hmmm jump rope is easy and fun....LOL, nope, I forgot how to jump rope. I kept hitting my legs and tripping myself up.....I wish I could of video tape it because it was comical. Well if I didn't burn calories jumping rope I certainly burned some laughing at myself. I will keep trying though, maybe I'll get better. Yikes, can't imagine getting on a bike or roller skates....things I use to do quite well with, if jump rope is so dangerous. LOL

I used to have a pogo stick! Can you imagine using it today! I would kill myself!
I have a brand new bike that has been sitting in the garage for over 2 years now. So glad we wasted that money. Maybe this year I will get on it...hmmm. Doubtful since I have become quite clumsy.

Danv2- LOL....think I'll pass on the cartwheels for right now. Over Christmas my daughter was showing a friend how to do tumblesaults. She said "Mom try it" sure how hard can it be. It was being video taped and you would of thought I did a triathlon from the cheering I did after I rolled over my big gut kinda in the sideways direction. In my mind I thought I did it well......on camera....not that graceful.
Fluffy- I'll leave the pogo sticks to the professionals (the kids)....I'm sure I would kill myself. I haven't been on a bike in years, they say it's a skill you never forget? Hmmmm....I wonder.
Hi Miranda, weight loss is at a standstill right now.....but it's my TOM sooooooo I'm still being patient.
Another reason my weight might be staying still is the way I ate this week. I consider my eating more of a flexitarian. I eat meatless and low to no dairy 3 or 4 days a week but I do believe there is a place in my eating for meat and dairy. So when my body craves it I will feed it......this week I was craving beef (which I eat once a month or so). I made a batch of homemade beef barley soup- so besides TOM, I know my sodium is higher then normal from the soup. I'm gonna have to pump in more water.
I'm sticking with my exercise and happy that I'm being consistant.....but if I don't knock it out in the morning. I find I try and make excuses to myself why I should skip it for the day- the mind can be dangerous. I'm doing the weights (well the bowflex)....and you would think I'm being tortured to death down the cellar from the screams filling the house. OMG- the BURN. I must admit that machine is not my favorite and I dread doing it.....thank goodness my husband does it with me otherwise I can see me not being consistant with that.

I'm so happy right now.....I just saw a women tonight I haven't seen for several months and she said "Wow, you look really good, did you lose weight? You look skinny." Then she told me to turn around so she could see. LOL...while I don't look skinny, it was a nice boost. I was thrilled someone (who is not family or someone who knew I was trying to lose weight) noticed. This was the first time someone noticed.......not sure why, but it felt good.

Congrats! It's so nice to have a good day!
I didn't have a good weigh-in this morning...I experienced one of 'those' days where I gained 3 lbs overnight. I'm assuming it's fluid retention, because I certainly didn't eat enough yesterday to gain 3 lbs...and I'm not upset, because the weight fluctuations happen all the time...but it is a tad discouraging when you go to weigh yourself...
I was very careful today...I'll see if it reflects tomorrow...

Thanks for the support Miranda and Rue! Hope you see some changes Rue.
Well the past couple of days haven't been the best....it's my TOM and I suffer from heavy flows and cramps. On top of that, I was feeling abit of a cold coming on. I haven't exercised in two days.......YUCK. I'm feeling a little better today so gonna force myself to get some in. My eating has been good (actually having to force myself to get my calories in, when I feel lousy I don't eat as well).
Hoping today is a better day.

Hope you have a better day too! Hope you're feeling better as well.
I'm still holding steady...no added loss...sucks...but as long as I don't fall off the wagon I should be okay...I know why I'm not losing...ate a wee bit more (not a huge amount, still within what should be 'weight loss' amounts) and haven't exercised as much due to the cold...
This is why I'm worried about maintenance...if such a little change can cause me to gain/hold steady...I'm going to have a heck of a time keeping it off unless I convince myself I have to 'diet' for the rest of my life...

Thanks for the support Rue......Yes feeling much better! Was not a full blown cold....together with my TOM it just made me feel crappy for a few days. Hoping you are seeing some loss Rue.
I'm down 3 lbs.....about time my scale is moving. I hit a mini goal (180*YAY*) my next mini goal is 170. I've got a new addiction they are called pink lady apples. OMG they are natures "sweet tarts". I had 3 yesterday.....I only have one left and I'm trying to figure out how I can get more today without leaving the house . From the moment I took my first bite , I was in love. First a light tartness fills your mouth making your mouth pucker and your eyes squint ever so lightly......then the sweet deliciousness of the apple fills your mouth as you swallow (even though you want that taste/feeling to last forever)....then happy happy feelings fill your heart and the heavens open up the angels sing. Ok, maybe I'm exaggerating abit......but they are Damn good!!!!
I'm staying clean with my eating and keeping up with my exercise (slacked off abit when I wasn't feeling well) but back on track and ready to hit my next goal.

i cant wait till my pants start falling off lol there still pretty tight lol
its funny the things we find amusing when were starting to lose weight LOL

I am glad to hear you are losing again Chrissy. I am a daily weigher too and even a couple days at a higher weight can be so discouraging. I had a chuckle at your pants falling down I have had that happen too and I just continued on with no pants, at home of course LOL. I find you feel less constricted to move that way It is great to hear a comment from someone who hasn't seen you in awhile. It is so encouraging. My grandpa said I looked thinner last time I saw him and he doesn't know I have been trying either. Good for you. I am glad you chose not to give up.

Yesterday I did very well in the exercise department, 4 miles on the treadmill, 15 minutes of stretches and coreball, my pushup challenge (23 pushups), bowflex weights with hubby at night 1/2 hour each.
I'm still hating the bowflex.......well I kinda have a love/hate thing going on with it. As I'm doing it...it bites.....but after I'm done I feel so good that I've completed it and I like that achy muscle feeling after (lets me know something is going on in my body). I tease my hubby....flexing my arms, saying "Baby, look I'm getting muscles....I can feel it popping through, look, look, look"......he cracks up. It's actually really cool doing some of my workouts with my husband......it is a different kind of intimacy, I'm digging it!
My eating was mostly clean yesterday. However I really like those kashi- Tuscan Veggie Bake but it hads alot of sodium 700mg. I'm trying to wean myself off of those convienient yummy high sodium frozen dinners. Ton of water....I think I went to the bathroom 52 times, I felt like I spent half the day in my bathroom.
Need to get on the treadmill soon .........

heres a question for everyone SODIUM it seems like its in everything but water LOL i was going to try a low sodium diet it looks impossible!
is it possible to actually go on a low sodium diet (i think its 1500 max per day) my work requires me to be on the road allot i was thinking well ill just eat subway but lunchmeat is loaded with sodium. anything in a can is, even stuff marked lower sodium is still way to much.
if anyone knows any links/books to a good low sodium diet. I would love to get your input?
hey chrissy, Ive heard allot of good things about the bowflex, I had a friend that had one and he got ripped in just under a year. The bowflex is a good tool to have.
later
Bob
