Here's a link Bob for low sodium diet http://www.hfsa.org/pdf/module2.pdf
My husband always had high blood pressure.....we eat alot cleaner now and I've almost completely cut deli meat from our diet. A big concern was the sodium nitrates.....his diet consisted of deli lunch meats for lunch practially everyday for years. Now he really does not eat meat for lunches. peanut butter and honey on whole grain bread (he eats this most days, and says it's satisfying and he's not bored of it). Or I'll make a low sodium soup and send a slice of whole grain bread (so he can heat it up) or once in awhile I'll make a turkey breast or chicken for some sandwiches (they don't last long because no preservatives). His blood pressure is the best it has ever been.
Basically cooking food yourself is the best way for lower sodium.....but it takes time and commitment, but the payoff is worth it.

I did ok yesterday.....2.5 miles on treadmill and my stretches and coreball exercises. Although had to really push my eating.....just wasn't hungry, I barely got to 1100 (but I know even when your not feeling hungry you need to fuel the body).
Today I already did 3 miles on treadmill (I upped the incline as well as the speed/intensity.... I was drenched when I got off, it felt GREAT) did my push ups, coreball, stretches. Tonight I will do weights with my husband (he lost 2 lbs. this week....men seem to lose so much faster).
I'm hoping my eating is better today (but again I'm not feeling very hungry, so far only had an apple, green tea, and 4 bottles of water)....think I'll make some oatmeal and almond milk.

I hear ya on those deli meats, Chrissy. My husband and a co-worker go to Subway every Wednesday...he's so proud but then he gets like the club sandwich, one of the worst ones sodium wise they have. We were discussing his salt intake and I told him he needs to make a better choice when they go there. He's coming around but the salt thing is his bigger hurdle more than anything. Baby steps is all you can take.
Great job on the 3 miles. You really are not that far from your goal!

Fluffymomma, Yup baby steps thats how we get there......they could be making alot worse choices then subway. My husband had high blood pressure and high cholesterol....and his age. So he was ready to make certain changes that he might of not of been ready to make a year or so ago.
Thanks for the support Fluffymomma!
Hi Rue, Thanks for the support......I hope you were able to get on the treadmill for abit. Do you have a blog Rue???
LOL @ Bob.....you are too funny. I just keep upping as my tolerence get's better . However it might sound more impressive then it is.......I only do 24 pushups, coreball 10/15 minutes (a coreball is really awesome it's an exercise ball and probobly my favorite piece I have. There are tons of exercises you can do on this), and 10 minutes of stretches.
1 mile of intervals on the treadmill.....way to go Bob, keep it up you are doing really awesome and that's what will melt the fat away.

Yesterday was a good day.....1400 calories and did a 1/2 hour each on the bowflex with hubby.
Today so far is another good day. Ate clean (oatmeal,1/2 tsp. honey, 3 tbsp. of walnuts, 1/2 cup non sweetened almond milk for breakfast. Lunch was a baked potatoe with 1/4 cup of black beans, 3 tbsp salsa, 2 tbsp. light sour cream) and in a few I'm gonna have a pink lady apple for snack.
Todays exercise was 3 miles on treadmill, coreball, pushups, and my stretches. I might try and get on the treadmill or gazelle later if I can but my son has a football game tonight so if I don't get anymore in I'm happy with what I've done today.

You're doing great Chrissy keep up the good work. I have got to increase my exercise, I think that's going to help me see the most results. I'm really wanting to tone up and right now I don't feel I'm getting as tone as I need to be. I know of course if I do build more muscle the scales will go up but I think that will help a lot with the bit of loose skin I have on my thighs at least that's what I'm hoping.
Keep up the great work.
Johnita

Well my eating was 1230 calories yesterday. I didn't get no more exercise in .....well none at home. But I did alot of screaming/cheering/jumping up and down /clapping at my sons game, so I'm sure I shed a few calories.
I wasn't going to exercise today....was being lazy saying I deserve a day off. But I feel really good and there was no reason why I couldn't do a little something. So hit treadmill for 2 miles, coreball, pushups and my stretches. My husband can feed into my being lazy really easy......if I say I don't want to do it today he's like "ok". Ummmmmmmmmmm, No darn it. When he fed into me wanting to be lazy so fast, it made me kinda feel guilty. So I was like Nope, we are doing something today!
Feeling much better that we didn't cave to laziness today.
Breakfast today was cream of wheat made with, honey, walnuts, 1/4 banana, non sweetened almond milk. Snack a pink lady.......
I'm making a roast today with mashed tatters (I make mine with sweet and white and garlic) and spinach. I'm craving BEEF today. I will have to be very conscious of portions with that meal. I will make us all a plate and wrap all the leftovers up and refrig them before serving us. Well thats the plan.
My weight is up today 181.2........I'm not stressing it because I know I'm doing everything right. But it is a little disappointing to see. I have changed my exercise program in the past couple weeks so thinking the weights have something to do with it. I'm trying to build muscle to gain more strength (I want to be toned and flexible as well) while losing fat (with cardio) so I will keep with doing this plan and see how it goes.

building muscle will burn the fat, I learned that in high school when i was playing football. I was lean and MEAN!
when you build muscle as soon as you work them out they have to heal, they do this by absorbing nutrients, they will absorb the fat when your eating a low calorie meal. its Body science it will work!
You are kinda a role model for me you are doing everything rite no doubt about it!
Bob

Hi Rue, well 181.2 again....it does get a little glum but our numbers will go down!!! I pumped in a ton of water today......hehehe wondering if that will make a difference. Will see tomorrow.
Awwww (( Bob )) thank you .........I feel the same way about you and all the people who keep coming onto the site consistantly and making positive changes.
Yesterday's calories were up at 1800 (was a beef day and boy was it yummy).
Today I was very hungry and just never felt satisfied....as I was eating something I was thinking about what I could eat next. Not a good feeling.
Todays food
cream of wheat, walnuts, honey, non sweetened almond milk
pink lady apple
baked potatoe, salsa, light sour cream
pink lady apple
peanut butter and honey on whole grain bread
salad (romaine, red pepper, onion, celery, carrots, tomatoes, avocado, 1 oz. turkey, fat free italian dressing)
calories today 1650 (As I'm sitting here I'm drinking more water because I still feel like I want to eat)
Exercise today- 4 miles on treadmill, pushup challenge (added 1 more to each set so added 5 more pushups), stretches.
I think for tomorrows breakfast I'm gonna have egg whites and salsa........that way I can have more for same calories, more filling maybe. Hope I don't have hungry horrors tomorrow it was hard to fight it today.

Hi Bob, I love eggs as well. I'm rather picky of my egg whites (I only like a product called "ALL Whites" made by Crystal Farms.....they don't add any coloring and they taste great).
In the beginning add one real egg to a few servings of the egg whites to get you use to it. (but thats if you eat them plain.....if you put add ins you will never tell)
However I've made them for my brother/his gf and other family members and they don't know the difference that they are eating only egg whites. I'm a girl that likes STUFF in my eggs......so I load it up with anything I can think of.
I saute up some onions, garlic, and peppers then put them off to side. I sometimes will saute up a few mushrooms seperate (put them off to side). Then I will cook up several servings of "All Whites" 1/4 cup is 30 cal. and 6g protein....so I'll make 4 or 5 servings. When eggs are almost done add in the sauted veggies for a minute. Plate it up and add some salsa.
Sometimes I will stir in a cup of brown rice (cooked first) to that mixture and then put it in a wrap or eat it as is.
I also like to make the egg mixture I wrote about about (sauted onions, garlic, ect) and add in some baby spinach as last minute of cooking. Then put the mixture on a flax pita, a couple tbsp. of pizza sauce, a couple tbsp. of low fat mozz. and bake in over for 5-10 minutes........great breakfast pizza *and so filling*.
Stuff I added to them was cup of cooked broccoli, sauted leeks, carrots, anything you can think of.
Hope I gave you a few ideas......I think if you enjoy eggs you will like them.

I did some research on eggs (we have chickens - and the girls are laying!)...no need to get rid of the yolk - it's the healthier part of the egg to begin with. Eggs have gotten a bum rap...
